Today, I went with my boyfriend and a couple I'm very good friends with to a local Orchard. I haven't had a real pumpkin in so many years so I figured it would be fun to go and pick out a pumpkin to carve.
We arrived to the orchard at around 2 pm. We got a wagon and got to explore the entire pumpkin patch to find the perfect pumpkins. I was overwhelmed at first, there were so many choices but I ended up finding one that I really thought would be perfect for me.
After we dropped our pumpkins off at the car, we headed into the shop to look at the fresh fruits. I was so excited!! I really needed honey so I was thrilled to purchase some. I also purchased caramel dip, apple donuts, apple cider, and a peck of apples!
After paying we headed to my friend's house to carve pumpkins. I have honestly never really carved a pumpkin from start to finish. My mom used to get them started for me when I was young, and then at a certain age, we just painted pumpkins or used fake pumpkins, I know, LAME! But I enjoyed it no matter what. So I was interested in challenging myself. Earlier in the day I had stopped at Kmart and picked up some carving kits. Along with the kits were some patterns. I chose a difficult pattern, of a spooky house at night! It took a good hour to carve but it was a blast. Then, we collected and sorted out the pumpkin seeds to bring home to roast later. We also baked apple crisp with some of the fresh apples.
You would think we would be done here, but no. We headed out to a Korean restaurant for dinner. After a long day out, I put my pumpkin on my porch, and proceeded to roast my pumpkin seeds. Ah, the joys of fall!
Oh, and I think my pumpkin turned out pretty darn good! I still have 2 more days off work and have lots to do including some decorating in my apartment and some errands!

ReplyDeletePs I like the personal post
ReplyDeleteFall is such a fun time of year, I am horrible at carving anything but triangles in mine. I recently saw someone use cookie cutters to cut out stars and different shapes. I haven't tried it, but it's a good idea and they turned out cute.
ReplyDeleteGreat job Ellen! I heard rub some vaseline on the cut edges and its surpose to help it not rot so fast!
