5 Interesting Ways To Improve Your Bathroom

Thursday, February 12, 2015

One of the things that people ask me all the time is how they can revamp their bathroom. It seems that people have loads of fabulous ideas when it comes to the rest of the house, but the bathroom baffles them. Luckily, I have a talent for redesigning different rooms in the house. Over the years, I have worked on almost every room in my home, and so I know what it takes to transform different areas. If you are thinking about changing your bathroom, you need to think about what you can afford and what you want to spend. Some projects can be costly, and once you start them, there is no going back, so you need to complete them. Here are five interesting ways to improve your bathroom today.

1. Install a freestanding hot tub

If you want to bring that soothing spa atmosphere into your house, there is one simple way to do so. Getting a hot tub is not a small decision. You will need a plumber, from the likes of tpdtx.com to rework your entire water works system. You may also need to redesign the space so that you have room for your tub. Many people find that having a hot tub, rather than a bath, creates a luxurious atmosphere in their bathroom. You can often get units online for less than you would pay in store.

2. Retile the walls

If you have wallpaper on your bathroom walls, you will notice that it peels. The problem with wallpaper is that it can't withstand damp. Your bathroom area is always damp and wet. When you have a shower, your bathroom becomes a steam room. That steam starts to strip your wallpaper and means that your walls soon look shabby. If you have tiling, rather than paper, you will find that you don't have this issue. Many modern bathrooms have tiles, and not paper, and so you should think about tiling your bathroom.

3. Get under-floor heating

When you step out of the shower, your feet hit the cold hard tiles on the floor. That is not a pleasant feeling. Wouldn't it be fantastic if the flooring were warm? Of course, it would. If you are considering re-tiling your bathroom, you should think about this idea. You can put some slim heating units under your floor tiles so that you can heat the room from beneath it. You can get a thermostat to control the temperature of the heaters so that your bathroom will always be cozy.

4. Create storage space

I recently wrote a post about how to make storage in your home. If you need storage anywhere in your house, it has to be in your bathroom. If you are like me, you will have loads of lotions and potions in your bathroom. You can't keep a million bottles on the side of the bath (or hot tub). That in itself looks messy and dirty. Instead, you should consider installing an extra storage unit in the room so that you are comfortable.

5. Redecorate the area

The final thing, which you should do in the bathroom, is redecorate it. When you have made all the functional changes to the room, it is time to get busy and make it look attractive. Remember, you should create a place where you can relax and unwind after a long day at work. That means that the bathroom decor should be simple, yet calming. When you are choosing colors for the room, it is best to stick to understated tones. Soft colors will make the room look bigger than it is.
