Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow: Spring's Hottest Styles

It’s almost time to bid farewell to the cold, wet winter days. With the arrival of spring comes an exciting opportunity to refresh your wardrobe and give your ‘do a makeover. If you’re looking for inspiration, why not give these styles a whirl?

Big, bouncy blow dry
If you have an event coming up, or you tend to enjoy glamming up, this is the style for you. Seen on the spring/summer catwalks, the big bouncy blow dry is back! Use volumizing spray before you start drying your hair. Section off your hair, and use a barrel brush to smooth flyaway strands and add height. When you’ve finished drying, throw your hair upside down and then fix with hairspray.

Surf style
The 90’s are well and truly back this spring, so if you’ve got any old bandanas lying around, you’re in luck. This look is all about low maintenance, laid back texture. You can add waves for that beachy look or simply for the ultimate bedhead style by adding dry shampoo to straight hair. Avoid over styling. If you have 5 minutes to get ready in the mornings, this could be your new go-to casual look.

Wet look
The wet look styles seen on the catwalks varied between sophisticated vintage Hollywood styles and effortless, just-got-out-of-the-ocean vacation styles. If you’re trying this look, match the style to the occasion. If you’re going out on the town, ramp up the glamor with a side-parting and tight curls or go for a sleek high ponytail. If you’re just hanging out, part your hair in the center, slick back the roots, and leave the ends natural.

Long and lovely
As we move towards summer, it’s nice to adopt a more relaxed approach to styling. In the winter, we tend to opt for more structured styles, which require time and effort. Channel your inner festival-goer this spring/summer, and opt for long, loose tresses. If you have short or mid-length hair, you can still give this look a go with tape in hair extensions. Give the straighteners a few days off from time and time and embrace the natural look. If you want movement and texture, braid your hair when it’s still damp, and wait for it to dry. On days when you’re in a hurry, and you want to throw it up, opt for a messy bun or fishtail braids.

Bardot beehive
If you love retro styles, you’ll be pleased to hear that this season’s muse is Brigitte Bardot. Think vintage beehives and classic updo’s for formal occasions, and casual waves teamed with headbands and oversized bows for a playful daytime look. Just add feline eyeliner flicks and plenty of mascara, and you’re good to go.

Like fashion, hair trends come and go in the blink of an eye, so now is the time to start planning your spring styles. Go vintage and celebrate years gone by, opt for easy, relaxed festival vibes or embrace your inner supermodel with a slicked back pony or a bouncy blowout.

  1. I just had several inches taken off my hair last weekend. The longest layer was getting so long, that even if I clipped it all up, it was still bugging me! I figure the shorter hair will help keep me cooler in the summer.
