How to Keep Up with Your Studies During the Busy Holiday Season

The holiday season is that special time of year where you tend to do a lot of visiting, socializing, and entertaining. It also tends to be that time of year where you are often running from one task to the next trying to get everything accomplished. So, with so much extra flurry and excitement it can be pretty easy for your everyday responsibilities to fall to the wayside.

If you happen to be a college student the holiday season can feel like a double-edged sword. You want to fit in all the fun stuff, but if you do then what happens to your studies? Perhaps you’re currently enrolled in study-intense program like the masters in criminal justice online through a well-known school like the University of Cincinnati. Anyone in the online MSCJ program knows just how much time, focus, and energy this program takes, so how can you keep up with it during the busy holiday season right through to the New Year? Not to worry as these tips will be able to help.

Even If You Get a Break Don’t Completely Shut Down

For many students there is that Christmas season break where you may not have any assignments or tasks due until the New Year. Rather than pack your studies away and not give them a second thought until January, try to get ahead if you can and do a little bit of studying each day. This will not only give you a jumpstart in January, but it will help to keep things fresh in your mind. If you can’t work ahead, then you can always do some review over the holidays.

Put Together an Online Study Group

Sometimes all we need is a little motivation to get us going, and that can be in the form of a study group. You can create your very own study forum online, which means no-one has to leave the house. Use this forum to chat about the course material, upcoming assignments/tests, and be sure to engage in discussions.

Set Yourself Up for Success

One of the biggest advantages in an online degree program is that you get to study from home, but unfortunately home can sometimes be filled with distractions. During the holiday season other people may be off on holidays, which means there is a bit more commotion than usual. You’ll want to set yourself up for success where studying is concerned and find a quiet room or space in the house that is free of all distractions. Let others know that when you’re studying you can’t be disturbed.

If it helps, you can even create a study schedule so others know when you’ll be studying and for how long.

Reward Yourself for Your Hard Work

Going back to motivating yourself, it can also be helpful to reward yourself for all the hard work you are doing. For example, give yourself little rewards like enjoying a Christmas goodie or beverage for each hour of studying you put in.

There is absolutely no reason that the holiday season has to derail your studies, it just takes a bit more drive on your part to stay motivated and on-track at this time of year.
