Is Your Dog Healthy?

Pet owners are looking for more and more ways to improve the health of their pets - and this is just as well, as without such efforts dogs and cats would have much more trouble going on. If you have a dog, then you are no doubt keen on ensuring that it is as healthy as possible at all times. This might be easier said than done, but with a little focus on some of the key areas, you should find that it is relatively simple to keep your dog in good shape. To help you out, we are going to look at some of the major aspects of dog health which all dog owners should know about. The more you know, the easier it is to look after your pet.

The Coat

Something that you need to keep a constant close eye on is your dog’s coat. You might think that this is just a cosmetic affair, but that’s not quite true. Actually, it is vitally important for their health that their coat is in good condition. One of the most important problems you could find with your dog’s coat is ticks. These can be a real nuisance, and if you leave them alone then they can even affect the dog’s bloodstream in some negative ways. Make sure you remove any ticks the moment you see them, ideally by cutting the fur off on that part. You also want to make sure that you are protecting your dog against fleas, but giving them regular flea protection and treatment if any do crop up.

The Bones

Looking after your dog’s bones and in particular their joints is always important. If you don’t take care of their bones, then they might not live quite as long as you would hope, so it is vital that you do everything you can. One of the most important aspects of this is regular exercise. As long as they are using their bones as much as possible, they will stay active. You should also make sure that their diet includes enough proteins and calcium for their bones to remain healthy. F you use something like Lintbells, you could prolong the bone and joint health even longer, so that might be worthwhile as well. Above all, taking care of your dog’s bones is one of the most important aspects of looking after their health.

Exercise & Diet

We have already looked briefly at the nature of diet and exercise, but it is worth knowing as much as you can about these important twin poles of dog health. It is important that you find out as much as you can about your particular breed, as different breeds need different amounts of exercise and food. The same is true of the size and age of your dog, so if you are unsure make sure that you ask your vet for some advice. If you get the diet and exercise levels right, then you will be doing most of the hard work in keeping them as healthy as possible.
