Tips to Help You Slim Down This Summer

A lot of people wait until January to start a diet, but I always think that summer is the perfect time to drop a few pounds, not least because it’s the time of year when we all have more flesh on show, and that serves as perfect motivation for a lot of us!

If you agree this is the perfect season to lose weight, here are some tips to help y0u slim down this summer:

Eat Summer Salads

We all know that salads are good for us. They’re low in calories and high in nutrients, which makes them the perfect food for slimming down, but in Autumn and Winter when it’s cooler, they aren’t exactly the most appetizing of options. That’s not the case in the summer when salads become much more appealing due to their light, cool nature. So, stock up on salads and eat them for at least one meal a day to see the pounds drop off.

Fill Up on Fruit

Summer is all about the snacks. You have ice cream, popsicles and cocktails on tap during picnics, trips to the beach and summer barbecues (I won’t even go into the barbecue food), but sadly none of these things are particularly good for a diet. Step, in fruit – it’s your summer savior. If you want a nice treat, but you don’t want to overindulge and eat over your calorie recommendations, make fruit salads, freeze bananas and eat them like popsicles, or juice your own fruits and turn them into healthier homemade popsicles. You won’t feel like you’re missing out and you will lose weight.

Watch Your Drinking

In summer, when the sun is shining, it can be tempting to drink lots of frozen margaritas, cool beers, and chilled sodas, but you could be literally pouring hundreds of calories down your neck every day by doing so. Instead, if you desire a refreshing drink, go for a cool ice tea made with sweetener rather than sugar, a diet soda, a cup of Detox Tea or best of all some fizzy water flavored with slices of lemon or cucumber. You’ll instantly slash the amount of calories you’re taking in, and this will help you lose weight.

Go for a Swim

Exercise will speed up your weight loss faster than almost anything else, apart from a healthy diet, but when it’s hot outside, the last thing you want to do is go for a run. Taking a dip in your pool/the sea/your local community pool, on the other hand, is exactly the kind of activity you can get behind, and since swimming works the whole body, you’re sure to lose weight and tone up if you hit the water for at least 30 minutes each day.

Flash Some Skin

You might think that your choice of outfit has very little to do with helping you slim down, but, for a lot of people, the act of wearing a very short skirt, tank top or bathing suit in the summer is enough motivation to keep them in the straight and narrow because they want to look as good as possible in their summer clothes. In fact, several studies have shown that women who wear baggier clothes are much more likely to overindulge at dinner than those who wear tighter clothes.

Take Long Walks

So many women think that to lose weight, they have to sweat it out in the gym for two hours a day or run a 5k every morning, but that’s simply not true. The humble exercise that is walking, when done at a moderate to fast pace, will burn almost as many calories as walking and it will be more enjoyable if exercise isn’t really your thing, especially in the summer when the weather is delightful, and you can explore local beauty spots.

Try Summer Sports

If walking is too gentle for you, why not try an exhilarating summer sport like kayaking, surfing or beach volleyball? You’ll have so much fun that you won’t even think of it as exercise, but you will notice the difference in your shape and the number you see on your scales after a few sessions.

Eat Outdoors

It’s summer, so you’re probably planning to have lots of picnics and outdoor barbecues anyway, but if you’re not, you might want to have a rethink. In fact, you might want to consider eating every meal you can outdoors, not only so you can take advantage of the beautiful summer days, but also because there is some evidence to suggest that we eat less when we eat outdoors in bright light.
