Wonderful Ways to Feel Truly Alive

Life is truly wonderful. It’s amazing to be alive and have endless opportunities to connect with others, fulfill our dreams and simply just have fun, but it doesn’t always feel that way. We all get down in the dumps from time to time, and we all start running on autopilot when we have busy lives, never stopping to truly appreciate simply being alive.
If you’re currently stressed out, in a funk or just not living as invigorating a life as you could be, here are some fun ways you can help yourself feel truly alive again:
Spend Some Time in the Seclusion of Nature
There is nothing better to help us appreciate the beauty of life than spending some quality time in the seclusion of nature. Go to an abandoned beach and watch the waves as they’re blown about by the wind, hike the local trail where you can breathe in fresh air, watch the animals frolic and play or meditate by the river and you’ll soon feel more alive and connected than ever.
Stick Your Head Out of the Sunroof
Next time you’re a passenger in a moving vehicle, open the sunroof and stick your head out of the window. The simple rush that you get from feeling the wind in your hair is amazing. Sure, you might ruin your do, but you’ll feel completely invigorated, and it won’t cost you anything!
Embark on a Motorcycle Ride
There’s something about riding a motorcycle out on the open road that just makes you happy to be alive. Like sticking your head out of the sunroof, you’ll feel the wind in your hair, and the speed will invigorate you. Just make sure you know your motorcycle safety before you go out on the road. A little bit of danger can feel exhilarating, but you don’t want to actually hurt yourself!
Crank Up the Stereo
If you’re in a funk, instead of wallowing in self-pity, binge-watching the same old shows until you resemble a zombie, turn on the stereo, crank up your favorite tunes and start dancing. Music is one of man’s greatest inventions. It can lift our spirits and make us feel truly happy to be alive. When combined with dance, it’s benefits are magnified and the at of moving around, getting the heart rate pumping can make us feel totally euphoric.
Live in the Moment
Instead of worrying how you’re going to pay those bills tomorrow or if you’ll pass that exam next month, think about nothing more than the present moment. Focus on your breath, actually, stop and smell the roses or listen intently to everything your spouse says. Your fears and worries will melt away and being alive will feel so good.
I know, I know exercise seems to be wheeled out as a panacea for every (almost) every problem plaguing mankind, and although it isn’t going to bring about world peace or help you pay the bills this month, the fact is that moving around more will get your endorphins pumping, giving you a natural high better than any drug.
Watch the Sun Rise or Set
There’s something so ineffably inspiring about watching the sun rise in the morning and set in the evening. It makes you realizes how beautiful the world really is and how we, here on Earth are such a small part of it all. This might sound depressing, but actually it’s quite the opposite. If we are so insignificant in the scheme of things, we shouldn’t worry when we make mistakes or if we choose a different path in life. We’ll all be gone in the course of time anyway.
Do Something That Scares You
We all have something that scares us. For some it could be spiders, for others the thought of jumping out of a plane is terrifying and for yet others, simply starting a conversation with someone they admire can be completely paralyzing, but here’s the thing – feeling the fear and doing it anyway is a great way to make you feel alive. Your adrenaline will start pumping, and you’ll want to run, but if you stay the course and face your fears, you’ll emerge a new person with a bigger zest for life.
Sitting quietly concentrating on your breath or sending loving thoughts to the people around you might not seem like the most fun way to spend an hour, but meditation, when done sincerely and on a regular basis can be truly life changing and life affirming. You’ll stop worrying so much about what people think and what will happen in the future, and you’ll start to feel an unshakeable sense of inner peace which will make every moment that you’re alive a blissful moment.
Do Random Acts of Kindness
Sometimes, when you’re feeling blue, and life seems dull and meaningless, taking the time to do something nice for someone else, just to make them happy, especially if they are a stranger, is a great way to turn things around and remind yourself that life is essentially good.
Connect with a Stranger
Similarly, making an effort to strike up a conversation with a complete stranger and listening to their story can help you to see things from another perspective, which h can give you a renewed sense of appreciation for your own life. We all have a story to tell, and they are all worth listening to.
Swim in the Ocean
Jumping into the ocean or a cold lake can be enough to shock your system and bring you out of any funk you’re in. It is a truly invigorating experience that will give you a natural high and boost your immune system.
Travel changes you. I’m talking about real travel, not just a couple of weeks spent on a beach somewhere, the kind of travel where you take only what you can carry in a backpack, the kind of travel where you visit every continent on the planet and sleep under the stars. Try it, and I can guarantee you’ll never feel more alive.
