Signs Your AC Needs Serviced

Air conditioning is practically a must in any modern home, so it can be a real pain when it suddenly breaks down. Even if you can find the best AC repair The Woodlands has to offer, fixing or replacing an air conditioner that has broken down completely can be prohibitively expensive for the average homeowner.

On the other hand, calling an AC repair company to make minor repairs before things get out of hand will almost certainly save you money in the long run. Here are a few signs that you should have your air conditioner serviced.
You Have an Old Air Conditioner
An air conditioner should last you between 15 and 20 years, but only if it is kept in good condition. If you have an old air conditioner that hasn't gotten a lot of maintenance, it might be time to call someone to take a look at it. Ideally, an air conditioner should be serviced at least once a year, preferably in the spring before you will really need it.

Your Utility Bills Have Been Higher than Usual

One of the best reasons to have your air conditioner serviced regularly is to keep it running efficiently. If you've noticed that your utility bills have been higher than usual, you might have an issue with your HVAC system that is forcing your AC to work harder than it should to keep your house cool.

You Notice Strange Smells or Sounds

When your HVAC system is working like it should, you won't notice any strange smells or sounds coming from your vents. You might notice a slight hum when your AC is switched on, but that should be it. If your AC isn't in great condition, you might hear rattling or knocking sounds from your walls, and your home might have a musty smell when you try to cool it off. Both of these are signs that you should call an AC repair technician to at least inspect your HVAC system. It could be that your vents just need to be cleaned, but it could be an indicator of a larger problem.

When it comes to your air conditioner, it's always better to be safe than sorry. If you suspect that you have a problem at all, call an HVAC contractor near you before it becomes too expensive to make any necessary repairs.
