If you spend any amount of time on your devices, you will have noticed how they affect you. Spending too much time in front of a screen can be harmful to your sleep patterns, your eyes, and your mental health. So how do you remove yourself from your devices? It’s time for a digital detox.

Set boundaries with your tech

This can be both time limits and keeping your phone away from you physically. If you see it sitting about, you might be tempted to pick it up and begin scrolling. By setting time limits and physically removing the phone from your vision, you can help reduce the risk that you will grab it.

Stop random scrolling

It might be tempting to sit and scroll through social media with reckless abandon, but what does that achieve? Even scrolling through your own photo collection counts. Studies show that mindlessly scrolling through social media can cause depression and anxiety. Nobody wants to damage their mental health like this.

Switch to prints

If you like looking at your photos, why not print them out and create an old fashioned photo album? This can be a great way to get all of those photos that are hidden in cyber space into reality. You can find details of helpful apps and sites to help turn your pictures into prints. This way, you can have them in a handy place for people to view instead of your mum trying to flick through your phone.

No phone during mealtimes

How often do you see a packed cafe and everyone is sitting on their phones? Pre-pandemic it was a common sight around the world. We are all just as guilty of doing this at home. If you do sit on your phone during meals, you can consume up to 15% more calories than normal.

No tech zones

Have you ever heard of a no tech zone at home? The idea is a simple idea of keeping your phone and any other technology out of particular rooms. Your bedroom is an ideal place so that your sleep patterns don’t get interrupted. However, you could also apply this to the bathroom too.

Find a hobby

What did people do before smartphones? They had other ways to keep their hands busy. Having a hobby can be a great way to step away from your phone. And bingeing on Netflix doesn’t count. Hobbies can be anything from cooking, cross stitching, or assembling jigsaw puzzles. You could even rekindle your love for some of the hobbies that you had as a child.

Exercise a little

Sitting with your phone all the time can cause a collection of annoying health niggles. One of the most common is ‘phone neck’, a condition which is the result of poor posture while looking at your phone. Yoga can be an ideal exercise to help undo the damage that your phone has caused. Doing a little exercise every day can have a massive positive impact on your health, so choose one that will benefit you in many different ways.
