Give Your Vanity a REFRESH

Spring cleaning is a big deal in my home but I also like to split up the tasks so they aren't so overwhelming. Today, I'm going to talk about giving your vanity a refresh. If you don't have an actual vanity, this can be your dresser, bathroom sink, or anywhere that you keep your makeup/hair items and where you get ready.

Clear Everything Out
Whether it's just the top surface or you have drawers, empty it ALL out.  This is how you really start fresh.  Find a surface and dump it all out so you can see everything you have.

Clean It
While you have a blank slate, wipe down everything to get rid of all that dust, makeup flakes, and grime.  If you have a mirror, clean it with glass spray.  This is the only time where you can easily give it a deep clean when it's completely empty!

Sort
Now you need to take all of the items you removed from your vanity and sort them all by category.  Eye makeup, eye liner, blush, hair product, brushes, etc.  Everything has it's own category. Sorting it all into groups shows you how much of each thing you have, since a lot of times we store similar items in different areas without realizing it.

Purge
Now is where you will go through and throw out anything that is expired.  If you need to replace it, write it on a list for the next time you go shopping for beauty products.  If it's something you have never ever use and likely won't use, toss it.   Take duplicates of things and either create a back stock area in your linen closet (shop the back stock area first when you run out of the item before you grab it from the store) or you can put all of them together in one place on your vanity but make sure you use them up.

Clean
You want to wipe down all your bottles, sanitize your brushes and combs, wash your makeup brushes, and make sure everything going back on your clean vanity is also nice and clean.

Organize
Now you can put things back in and on your vanity, keeping like items together.  It's okay if you want to keep your most commonly use things in one grouping.  I actually do that. I have a selection of eye liners in one little vanity drawer but I keep my most often used one in a drawer where all of my other most often used makeup is.  Consider purchasing table top drawer sets for a vanity that lacks drawer space.

Don't Over Buy in the Future
Make sure you don't over buy things in the future. If you have a lot of backstop, use those items up first before you ever pick up your favorite item just because it's on sale.

Keep It Organized
After you get ready and use your products, PUT THEM BACK WHERE THEY GO! This will make it so much easier in the future when you are tidying up your vanity.  And the less clutter you have on it, the easier it is to clear it off to clean it out and refresh it every few weeks.

Do you have an organized clean vanity or is this an area you struggle with?
