Tips for Your Outdoor Living Space

When it comes to outdoor living spaces, it's a great way to create a whole additional living space outside of your home whether you use it to relax by yourself or to host and entertain others.  But sometimes an outdoor living space gets cluttered and you start to move away from the whole point of it. So here are some tips for outdoor living spaces.

Keep it Simple
Whether it's decor or what you're using it for - simplicity is key.  Keeping it simple means there will be less to clean and less visual clutter.  If your outdoor space is for lounging and dining you may want to limit what furniture you have to a grill, fire pit, dining set, and some lounge chairs.  Before adding outdoor rugs ask yourself if you really need them.  They require some cleaning and sometimes dirt and water get stuck under them which can leave marks on your patio.

If your outdoor space is for gardening and lounging - keep the furniture minimal and focus more on the plants and pots.

Be Wise about Decor
It's nice to see all these gorgeous outdoor living spaces in magazines and on social media but not everyone lives in an area where the climate will support that. If you live in a windy area, decorative things may be blown off dining tables, in hot summer months your pillows and furniture cushions may fade in the sun, and if you live in an area teaming with all kinds of fun insects - you may be creating lots of hiding spaces for them in your decorative accents.

Pick Colors
Of course if you love doing boho decor feel free to load up the color choices for your outdoor living space but if you want to keep it simple, stick with a main color for the furniture like white, brown, or black.  Then pick a couple accent colors for decorative pots, cushions, etc.  So We have bronze and black finish on our outdoor seating and table with glass end tables and dining table.  We have 2 rocking chairs that have a teal color and then I have a tealish colored garden stool.  That's how simple I keep mine.

Add Texture
If it looks too plain, make sure you add texture.  If you do think an outdoor area rug would look nice, go ahead and add one.  For us, we don't really use cushions on our patio but in our porch I have them and it softens up the entire vibe of the place.  I don't really do much with outdoor blankets and rugs on the porch since it's carpeted but also the pollen that settles on everything in the Spring is icky so it requires a lot of upkeep.

Use Plants to Spruce it Up
If you have some potted herbs, those would look great around your side tables and dining table.  Any large houseplants that can go outdoors in the warm months would do great mixed in among the furniture.  You can also hang certain plants do add decor up high.

Hopefully these basic tips will help you get your outdoor spaces looking nice!
