Is Your Home Ready For Summer?

Thursday, April 1, 2021

Ah, summer. Is there anything better? Long warm days spent outside. Everyone is in a good mood. It’s the good life, and it’ll be especially good this summer, after the chaotic year that we’ve all had. While it’s possible to just go with the flow during the warm months, it can also be beneficial to spend some time getting things prepared so that you can enjoy the summer to the fullest. One area to focus on especially is your home. While you might be taking a few trips elsewhere, the majority of your summer will likely be spent at home.

So let’s ensure that it’s conducive to a great summer. In this blog, we’re going to run through some tried and tested methods for getting your home summer-ready. If you start now, you’ll be ready to go once the summer is in full swing.

Switch Out Your Wardrobe

Most people just keep all their clothes hanging in their wardrobe all year round. However, there’s a lot of value in taking the other approach, which is to have seasonal wardrobes. By this, we mean that, during summer, the only things in your drawers will be clothes that you’ll wear when it’s warm. All those jackets and layers can be tucked away in storage, under your bed, or elsewhere. This isn’t the biggest deal in the world, but it does make life a little easier -- when you wake up, you’ll be able to look through your drawers and only see clothes that you’ll realistically wear that day.

Spring Cleaning

The summer light is going to shine a spotlight on areas of your home that have previously been left in the shadows. We can kind of get away with a less than perfect home, cleanliness wise, during the winter months. Light and airiness aren’t so essential then. But during the spring and summer months, they’re more important -- indeed, opening up the doors wide and letting the summer breeze fill your clean home is one of the joys of the season. In order to enjoy this to the max, you’ll need to ensure that your home is as clean as it can be. In the build-up to the summer, look at giving your home a deep clean. This means pulling out all the furniture that would normally cover dirt, and go to town. It can sometimes be beneficial to hire a cleaner to do this job for you. They’re not as expensive as you might think, and they’ll do a much better job than you can do!

Clean or Change The Windows

As we just said, you’ll want as much sunlight to pour through into your property as possible during the summer months. And you’ll want to be able to see outside, too -- there’s nothing like waking up on a beautiful morning and looking outside to see that it’s going to be a beautiful day. Of course, you’ll already have windows that you can look through. But are they as in good condition as they can be? If you deep clean your windows, you’ll find that you can let significantly more light into your property. If your windows are old, then look at changing them completely.

Remember that it’s not just about letting in light, however. Too much light can be bothersome, especially during the hottest part of the day. Installing plantation shutters will help you to control the amount of light that can come into your property. You’ll also want to remove any bulky furniture that’s sitting close to the windows, as this can block out light that would otherwise stream into your home.

New Bedding

We love the warmth during the summer months. But it can sometimes feel too warm. While it can be manageable during the daytime, things get a little trickier at night. We all know the sensation of lying awake at night, tossing and turning all because of the heat in the room. But this isn’t something that you have to simply accept! Begin by looking at your bedding. There are some sheets that stay cool, even as you warm up. As well as your bedding, look at installing AC in your bedroom. This will result in higher energy costs but can be a game-changer when the temperatures begin to creep up.

Get The Yard Ready

So far, we’ve talked about the inside of your home. But what about the outdoors? If your yard is in shape, then you’ll be able to enjoy many long hours spent with your friends and family, soaking up the rays. The great thing about yards is that you really don’t have to do all that much to make them presentable. For instance, if there’s lush grass, some plants, seating, and a BBQ, then you’ll be well on your way to living well.

Lighter Colors

As with your wardrobe, it’s a good idea to change the theme of your home when the seasons change too. During the winter months, you’ll go for deep and dark colors, like brown and navy. But those colors would look a little out of place during the summer months. Could you change your pillowcases, bedsheets, and towels to lighter colors? Yellow, white, and cream work especially well during the hot months.

Add Some Fun

It’s easy to enjoy the summer months at home. If it’s sunny and you’re comfortable, then you’ll be having a good time! But there are also ways that you can take things to the next level of fun. For example, what about having an outdoor cinema in your yard? Or adding a firepit so you can stay outside even the temperatures begin to dip after the sun has set? Both of these things sound pretty grand, but they’re actually easier to bring into your life than you might think. You can also look at adding some fun toys and games to your yard, too. You won’t need to leave your property when you’ve got everything you need to have a great summer right on your property!
