Tis the season for snow days and being stuck inside the house because it's either too cold to even step outside or it's too dark to enjoy being outside. Don't let these days go to waste. I take advantage of this time of year to do things I don't want to do in the warmer months when I'd rather be outdoors. So here are some productive things you can do when you're stuck inside.
Sort Paperwork
Yea paperwork...you know... the stuff you just shove into a drawer or folder throughout the year? Well, now it's time to do something about it. Scan and save it to a computer filing system, get rid of what you don't need, and make sure your filing system is actually being used. Trust me, sorting paperwork passes time very quickly so if you're getting cabin fever this should be a good distraction.
Make a Meal Plan List
After a busy day, thinking of what to make for dinner can be an obnoxious task. Making it mindless by meal planning is always a great idea but an even better idea is to make a list of all the meals you make on a regular basis. When you're lacking inspo when making the plans for your upcoming week of meals simply glance at this list to find your options!
Fix Little Burdens
You know that chair that wobbles because a screw needs tightened? Well, now is an ideal time to do all those little things like replacing light bulbs, tightening screws, and putting the stacks of clothing in your room into the places they actually belong. This is the time to get all of those annoying tasks completed.
Clean
When all else fails - CLEAN! Deep clean every crevice you can and burn some calories. Clean the shower and toilet, wash the floors, wipe the walls, vacuum under furniture, and scrub the baseboards. Or if you don't feel like getting that crazy, just do a regular clean. Do it now so the rest of your week is free. Start the dishwasher, wipe down the kitchen, vacuum the house, and wipe down dusty surfaces. Either way, this is something that will make you feel like you took advantage of the day and have something to show for it.
Enjoy a Hobby
Enjoying a hobby is still productive because it's doing something you enjoy. This works best if you have hobbies you can do right away with stuff you have on hand like reading, watching movies, writing, crafts, and gaming. Don't feel bad if you have things to clean and organize... just enjoy yourself on this day when you have no choice but to be stuck inside. Productivity does not include self care and self care does not exclude hobbies.
Now go pick something and enjoy it!
