The heart needs to be fit and healthy, as its primary function is to keep blood circulating throughout the body. If it's not pumping blood, then, well, we all know what happens. But how can you keep your heart off and healthy? What does your heart need from you to allow it to do its job with ease and care for you in the best way possible?  
A Good Diet

Your heart relies on you to maintain a well-balanced diet that is rich in nutrients and supports a healthy heart function. Foods high in fat, especially saturated fat, highly processed foods, trans fats, and high salt and sugar intake can all impact the health of your heart and health in general. A Mediterranean diet, which includes fruits, vegetables, beans, legumes, lean meats, fresh fish, whole grains, and healthy fats, is widely acknowledged as heart-healthy. By incorporating these heart-healthy foods into your diet, you can significantly improve the condition of your heart and your overall health.

Regular Checks

Regular check-ups with your physician are crucial for maintaining heart health. These appointments help you stay on top of your heart health and detect any issues early. By being vigilant during these visits, you can notice any changes or experiences that are related to your heart. If you have a family history of heart problems or are experiencing any heart-related concerns, you can consult expert cardiologists and undergo essential tests to rule out or diagnose heart conditions. This proactive approach enables you to make any necessary adjustments to enhance heart health or maintain function, providing reassurance that you are taking control of your heart health.

Exercise

You want to aim for at least 30 minutes of movement per day, and the more vigorous your exercise, the more beneficial it will be for your heart. Good goals to aim for are 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise per week or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise per week. Additionally, two strength training sessions can also be beneficial for heart health.

However, regular activities like walking, chores, and climbing stairs all count towards your movement goals, so don't negate the benefits of simply getting on with your life and not being sedentary, even if you can't go to the gym.

Sleep

You need a good night's sleep, and poor sleep habits can impact your heart health. A lack of sleep has been linked to an increased risk of strokes and heart disease. However, maintaining good quality sleep and regular sleep patterns, ensuring you get enough sleep each night, can help regulate blood pressure and your heart rate. The reality is you need sleep for a great many functions, and your heart health is a significant reason why you need to focus on getting enough sleep. Because if you're sleeping better, you feel better, and you're giving your heart a better chance of remaining healthy.
