Being organized is especially important when it comes to your closet. There are several benefits of having an organized closet. You can save money, time, and energy on a daily basis. But most of the time, you need some organizing tools to actually get your closet to that point. Here are my 5 favorite items.
1//Stackable Closet Shelves
Closet shelves are perfect for shoes and accessories. You can even use them for jeans that you fold up. They help you make the most of your floor space.
2// Boot Organizers
I love my boot organizer. It's the ideal way to store my boots without them getting crushed, scuffed, and torn. Plus, this is an awesome way to air them out when not in use!
3// Storage Cubes
Storage Cubes are a fun way to display and store your bags and clutches.
4//Woven Baskets
Baskets are great for on shelves in your closet and you can store all kinds of things in them like workout clothing, bags, jeans, or sandals.
5//Accessory Hanger
Accessory hangers are great for items like bras so you can free up space in drawers.
Did you like the boot organizer above? Well, great, because I'm giving one away! Good luck!

This is like the ultimate checklist for those that want the best of both worlds... you want a lot of what you love (shoes, shirts, jeans, bags) but you don't want an excessive amount. So without denying you of any options , this list just basically helps you pair down duplicates. Think about how many things you have that are kind of the same thing.. 2 pairs of black pumps, 2 pairs of black boots, 3 pairs of dark wash skinny jeans... exactly.
So here's a good idea of what you really need in your closet.
Shoes
//Flats
[]1 pair nude
[]1 pair black
[]2 pairs of pattern/print
//Sneakers
[] 2 pairs of sneakers
//Boots
[]1 pair black
[]1 pair nude boots
[]1 pair light brown
[] 1 pair dark brown
//Booties
[]1 pair black
[]1 pair nude
//Pumps
[]1 pair black
[]1 pair nude
//Wedges
[]1 pair black
[]1 pair statement
[]1 pair nude
1 pair grey boots/booties/shoes
1 pair rain boots
2 pairs of flip flops
Jeans
1 pair dark wash skinny jeans
1 pair casual jeans
1 pair light wash skinny jeans
1 pair of various colors of skinny jeans
2 pairs of black leggings
2 pairs of grey leggings
1 pair khaki pants
2-3 pairs of capri pants
3 pairs of shorts
1-2 skirts
Tops
3-4 Sweaters
3 flannel tops in different colors
3-4 blouses
3 summer dresses
2-3 formal dresses
3-4 neutral long sleeve tops
2 black camis
2 white camis
1 cami in each various color
3-4 Casual tees
//Jackets
[] 1 faux leather
[] 1 black blazer
[] 1 colored/patterned blazer
[] 1 khaki/brown jacket
Bags
1 Winter Tote
1 Summer Tote
2 Top Handle Bags
2 Clutches
1 Evening Bag for formal affairs (think Weddings)
1 Crossbody bag
I know this list may not be completely helpful but I hope it gives you a basic idea of the things you really need, so that you can maybe print it and start going through your closet to see how many of each thing you have. I mean really, why do you need 3 black blazers? Pick the one that fits best, and is the nicest quality and just stay with that one.

I'm obsessed with organizing and I find that being organized helps me stick to a healthier lifestyle. So it's no surprise that I'm eating healthier at lunch now because I can organize my food! I am obsessed with Laptop Lunches from Bento-ware!
This little gem is the bistro bento box. It comes in the beautiful color I chose and it's made of durable plastic that is microwave safe and dishwasher safe!
I have been majorly slacking on my healthy lunches and I end up either having just a sandwich, or I only eat half because I'm just miserable. So I figured if I have a little more fun with lunch prep, it should help. And it did!
Inside my Laptop Lunch is a sandwich box, a little container with a lid for fruit or any other side, and a lidless container (the Laptop Lunch lid actually acts as the lid for this one for anything else! The possibilites are endless. I love the silverware slot! I actually use it for my string cheese. I put fresh apples in the one container and some granola in the other. And you can actually get different Bento Buddies for different configurations.
Does it make life easier for me? Heck yes it does! I just get home, rinse out everything, and repack it for the next day. Then when I am getting ready to head to work in the morning, I don't have to worry about shovig my sandwich in my purse and having it squished. That's because the Laptop Lunch box is sturdy and protective. Then even if I toss it around while it's in my purse, the two lidded containers inside are water-tight. And for those of you that love being healthy all the way around, not only is this product free of phthalates, BPA, lead, and PVC but it's also made proudly in the USA!
Seriously, this is awesome! If you are a mom, you will love this for your kids. And if you are an employee who packs their lunch daily, like I am, and already carries too many bags to work (work bag and handbag) you don't need a 3rd! So just carry your Laptop Lunch in your existing bags or under your arm. I seriously will never use a lunch bag ever again!
PS - What do you pack in your lunch? I want some ideas!

Whether you have a small apartment, an older home with tiny
closets, or you live back at home
temporarily (like me), you will always be stressed when you can’t easily choose
outfits, or keep your wardrobe organized.
Over the past few months I’ve re-done my closet and dressers
so many times until I finally found what I believe is the most efficient way to
store, organize, and maintain a wardrobe when you have limited space.
So here are a few tips and methods to downsizing,
organizing, and maintaining a wardrobe with limited space.
DRESSERS
Utilize your dressers in the most efficient way
possible.
What to store in them:
Underwear
Socks
Socks
Pajamas and Loungewear
Tshirts (solid and graphic)
Camis
Tank Tops
Off season pants
How to maximize the space in them:
Fold everything flat and then stand up vertically. It makes it easier to see what
you have without sifting through and messing up how it’s all folded.
Purge what you don’t need. Do you have 4 plain white tshirts? Keep two and get rid of
the the ones that are old, stretched, or stained.
CLOSET
I hang my work slacks on a cascading hanger (pic)
I take all of my colored pants and skinny jeans and keep
them on pant hangers because it’s easier to look through them that way versus
digging through a pile in a drawer or on the top shelf of my closet.
My jackets and hoodies are all hung (I purged them as
well. Really, I only need 2
fitness jackets ,2 nice zip jackets, and 2 pullover the head hoodies.
Then I hang everything else up by color. I make sure to purge things as often as
possible. (see my purge post here
LINK!)
CLOSET SHELF
Most people have different shelving unit set ups in their
closets. I just have the simple
shelf that goes across the top.
The following are some ideas of what you can put on the
shelf:
I store 6 plastic shoe boxes (we’ll get to what’s in them
later) on the left side
I keep little plastic baskets (3) on the top shelf in the
middle that contain my most often worn in-season jeans . It’s so easy to pull these out and
root through.
My favorite handbags and clutches go on the right side
STORING EXCESS SHOES/BAGS
So what do you do when you have off season shoes, bags, and
no drawers or closet space for them? Easy… Go out to pretty much any store and buy those
big plastic bins with a lid on top.
The clear ones are great so you can see what’s in them.
What To Store in Them:
Purses
Off Season Shoes
Off Season Shoes
HOW TO STORE OFF SEASON CLOTHING
Get those Plastic zip up storage bags and slide them under
your be dlike I do, or get the vacuum seal ones if you wish but I always end up
sneaking in mine half way through the season so I don’t want to worry about
vaccum sealing them again!
How to Decide what Goes and Stays with Off Season Clothing
Whenever I’m prepping my closet, I go through every summer
dress and summery blouse and decide if I can wear it with some of my winter
clothing. Sleeveless blouses look
great under a cardigan, while sexy tops don’t really do anything but make you
freeze in the winter, so I store those.
How to Decide what Goes and Stays with Off Season
Accessories
If I have a dressy pair of heels, a great pair of sneakers,
and some other fancy formal event heels, I keep those in plastic storage shoe
boxes on the top shelf in ym closet so I don’t have to go into storage when I
rush to get ready for an event.
With purses, I put the white ones and the summer color ones
away for winter. I always keep my
favorite fall ones as well as my FAVORITE universal cluth bags in my closet on
the top shelf.
CLOSET FLOOR
I got a wooden shoe organizer where I keep flats and heels
and booties on the top. Then my tall boots are standing on the bottom.

In order to free up space and not spend money on things you
already have, it’s a good idea to purge your closet at least once every 2
months. I actually have a
rule called 1 In 1 Out, where if I want to add something to my wardrobe, I MUST
get rid of something to make space.
So here are 5 questions to ask yourself for each item you
are looking at, in order to decide whether to purge it or not.
1.Does it fit and flatter me?
If so, keep it.
If not, GET IT OUT!
Even if you think you’ll fit into it someday, ask yourself how many
times you’ve opted to keep it to fit in it later, and if you tend to do that
every month, chances are, you aren’t that serious about your goal of dropping
sizes. If you really wanna
keep your stuff so you can eventually fit (or it’s your reward for when you
drop those pounds) keep it all in a plastic storage bin!
2.Is it ripped or stained?
If it has pit stains, it might be time to say farewell, but if it just has a
makeup stain, make sure you treat it and clean it, or find a drycleaner who
will. If it’s ripped and it
can’t be repaired, get it out of there! If you can get it sewn or stitched then put it in a
pile to do so and make sure you take action as soon as you’re done purging!
3.Is it a special occasion piece?
Every woman needs special occasion pieces in her wardrobe
like for a wedding, summer bbq, or a photoshoot. Don’t get rid of something you’ll have to break the
bank to replace if it’s not ripped, stained, or too big/small.
4.How often have I worn this in the past 6 months?
If you don’t have ANY idea of how many times, than it’s
probably because it’s not worth wearing. If you don’t believe me… set it aside in a storage bin
with a tag on it that says “DECIDING”.. and see if you miss it after 3
months. You’ll thank me
later.
5.Would I rather sell it and make a profit?
There are some items in every girl’s closet that are worth
more than how often we wear
them. I had a nice leather bomber
jacket but I never really wore it, so I sold it for $75 on ebay. And instead, I got a $25 leather bomber
jacket from TJ Maxx to replace it.
I’d rather have that $50 than the twice a year jacket.
What’s the one question that you always use to determine
whether to keep or pitch something? Is it one of the ones I listed?

There will always be Spring Cleaning.. But let’s not forget Fall Cleaning. Since you are switching out your Summer wardrobe for your Fall one, now’s a great time to clean out your closet while you have everything emptied. Here are some easy tips on how to do this.
1.First, clear the floorsTake all non closet items (like photos and photoboxes) and put them on the dresser in the hallway and then I can put them in the bookshelf and stuff.
Also -Purge your shoes…. Make 4 piles… KEEP, PITCH, DONATE, UNSURE - You will come back to the unsure pile later and you can go through it again and ask DO I REALLY WANNA KEEP THIS
2. Go through your clothing that is hanging (need to make room for other items to hang before u do anything else)
Don’t Keep it if:
-You haven’t worn it in 2 years
- it’s faded or has stains
-It doesn’t Fit
**Make a KEEP PITCH DONATE pile to help this process
3. Purge Hangers – get rid of all the old crummy dry cleaner ones (thin metal ones) , seriously they are terrible. Wire hangers are the worst
4. When you start to hang up your clothing again, you can organize it several ways: ALL of these ways make it so much easier to choose outfits and wear more than just the same 10 outfits a month
BY COLOR THEN STYLE
I do my closet by color. ALL my same colored items are together, and within each color I do Tank tops, then short sleeved, then half sleeve, then long sleeves.
BY STYLE
All short sleeve shirts together, all long sleeve shirts together, all blouses together, all tanks together, etc.
5. Purge underwear and pitch any with holes , stains, or ones that don’t fit.
6. Purge panty hose and bras.
7. You might have room for pants in one drawer or you can hang them in the closet if you get rid of enough clothes.
8. After your drawers and hanging clothes are done, you can put your shoes back in your closet.

Organizing a closet is the first step to a becoming a frugal fashionista. If you love frugal fashions but also love shopping at high-end malls, these are the wardrobe planning tips to save you money. Get miles of style with fashion ideas that won’t cost you your shirt!
Every frugal fashionista knows that going to the mall can be a little depressing when you’re on a tight budget. $100 jeans and $300 handbags are proof that many don’t mind the high cost of fashion.
If you enjoy the latest fashions, as I do, you know that the mall will have it. But without will-power and a clear plan of what you need, your day of “window shopping” can be a budget buster that you’ll be paying for months from now!
Here’s an idea: When you go to the mall, go with purpose.
I usually have something in mind that I need, or perhaps I go for a little “girl” time … coming home with nothing isn’t an option! So, what’s a frugal fashionista to do?
Before going to the mall, start by organizing your closet. The best time to go to the mall is after a deep cleaning closet organization extravaganza.
Organizing your closet before going to the mall is similar to eating before you go to the grocery store. If you’re famished in the grocery store, you’ll buy on impulse. What’s worse is that this extra food is usually junk food!
The same is true at the mall. If you’re starved for fashion, you’ll fill your bags with useless bobbles! So, organize your closet first.
The type of closet organization I’m talking about usually occurs at the change of the season when most clothing purchases occur.
Like many people, after Labor Day, I pull out my winter clothes and pack away my summer lot. The most important aspect of organizing a closet is taking a wardrobe planning inventory.
Wardrobe Planning Tips
A wardrobe inventory should contain a few key items:
1. A list of what you have; your basic items such as black skirts and blue suits.
2. A list of your lifestyle activities AND how many outfits you need for each activity. (i.e. If you golf often, you need more than one golf shirt. If you go to cocktail parties once a year, you only need one cocktail dress.)
3. A list of what items you need to purchase in order to have complete outfits for work and pleasure.
Organizing a Closet
First, I make note of all the wardrobe essentials I have and what I might need to replace for the coming season. I take photos on my Smartphone for reference when shopping.
Without this inventory, I might be tempted to buy a really cute black pencil skirt, when in fact; I already own a really cute black pencil skirt!
A good closet inventory reins me in because I can see what I already have and how little I really need!
Have you ever purchased a cocktail dress or business suit that sat in your closet with the tags on it? I have. I could have avoided this if I’d taken note of my wardrobe needs for my lifestyle.
Your lifestyle dictates your wardrobe planning needs. If you work from home, there’s no need to own 10 business suits. And if you’re in the office everyday, 10 pairs of jeans is simply too many.
Owning too many clothes can cost money in some hidden ways. The more crowded a closet, the more you’ll purchase. You end up buying clothes similar to what you already own simply because you can’t see what you have. This cosmic fashion joke propels unneeded purchases … the more you have, the more you need!
When organizing your closet, free yourself of clothing you don’t need: old bridesmaid dresses, decades-old suits, and maternity dresses you’ll never wear again are OUT! They’ll only hide the good stuff.
With your wardrobe inventory in hand, hit the mall. You can take note of what styles you like, but you don’t have to purchase them at retail prices … unless you feel you absolutely have too.
There are several online options for frugal fashions. Outlet and discount stores, and even vintage shops carry similar fashions that you find in high-end malls.
If you see a wonderful outfit on a mannequin, don’t be afraid to pull out that camera and take a snap shot. These photos will be helpful when hitting vintage clothing stores, and outlets.
You can also use your snap shots at home. See what pieces you already own that could be used as part of the outfit that inspires you. You may find that you already own similar clothing that could replicate the look with only an accessory or two.
The next time you leave the mall without shopping bags, you haven’t left empty handed! You’ll have inspiration for well thought-out wardrobe purchases when you come across a fashion deal. And, you’ll be a savvy shopper who knows what items to leave on the rack.
