It is estimated that a staggering $14.4bn worth of clothing ends up in landfill each year. People today are trying to find ways of reducing this and ensuring waste is reduced. One way of helping ensure clothing does not end up in landfill is to consider the concept of a capsule wardrobe. A capsule wardrobe is your clothing which is pared back, reducing the number of items in your wardrobe, and what is left can work with everything else. You are mixing and matching key pieces that are both fashionable and classic to extend the reach of your wardrobe. Not only that but a capsule wardrobe helps you bring order to what can be a chaotic wardrobe. While fashion does make you feel good when wearing it if you feel you need additional support in how to gain confidence, check out this blog post. Let’s get started on the tips to help you design your very own capsule wardrobe.

Select Your Number

This means figuring out the number of items you require in your capsule wardrobe. Most people aim for 50 items. It can be daunting figuring out the 50 items you need. Sit down with a pen and paper and work out what items you currently wear and when you wear them. If you pick a number you will be able to get creative with the items you have in your wardrobe rather than feeling you have nothing to wear.

Be Creative

Have an attitude that is creative and work at developing outfits that bring you joy. Be playful too by adding accessories to change your outfits. Be open to new ideas and read up on everything capsule wardrobe to get inspiration and look at a site such as Pinterest to get some fashion ideas of how to put outfits together.

Have a Clear Out

Before you can start your capsule wardrobe having a clear-out will help you in the process. Be realistic with what you keep and what you decide to give to a charity shop. Ask yourself if you really love the item, have you worn it, and will it work with other pieces in your wardrobe.

Take Your Time

Do not rush to buying new clothes when you have had a clear out. Work with what you have no matter how limited. Research what you need and seek out inspiration to help you choose your items. Give yourself the time you need to fall in love with what is currently in your wardrobe.

Figure Out Your Style

There are times when personal style can be lost or forgotten. Look at your wardrobe and figure out the styles you like and what suits you. If you work from home, then there is no point in buying expensive suits. If you are in jeans every day, don’t trick yourself into buying trousers you would never wear. The idea is to find a style or styles you love and only buying items that reflect that.

Key Pieces

The following are key pieces to consider in your capsule wardrobe:

The Black Dress: Finding a dress that you can dress up or down is key to any capsule wardrobe. It will work hard for you and you can wear it in all seasons. If you stick to a black dress you can add in colorful accessories or team up with a blazer. In the summer you can wear sneakers and in the winter with boots.

The White T-Shirt: A white t-shirt will work hard in your wardrobe. It can be worn under a blazer with jeans or a skirt. You can wear it casually at the weekend or you can wear it with smart trousers and high heels. It is extremely versatile and should most certainly be on your list of key pieces for your capsule wardrobe.

An Oversized Jumper: A luxurious oversized jumper is just perfect for the colder months. You can choose from a round neck to a high neck jumper. It can be worn with jeans, skirts, and trousers. There are many colors to choose from but opting for winter white means it will go with everything in your wardrobe.

Underwear: You will want to have key pieces in your wardrobe of bras and pants. No matter your size there are a plethora of styles out there.

Finding plus size underwear is also easy too, just shop around for key items such as t-shirt bras, plunge bras, and strapless bras. Having a selection in your capsule wardrobe will mean it will be easy to wear items without having to purchase new underwear.
