How To Go DAYS Without Washing Your Hair + Still Look Great

Monday, December 14, 2015

You probably don't know this but I only wash my hair 3 times a week.  Sometimes I even wash it just twice a week!  A lot of celebrities do the same thing.  In fact, when you see celebs on stage or on your TV screen, I guarantee you they have several day old hair.   It's a common misconception that it's healthy to wash your hair every day.

So why do people do it?

The number one reason given by most people is that if they don't wash their hair everyday it get's greasy.

The funny thing about that is that your hair gets greasy BECAUSE you wash it everyday.  Shampooing strips the oils from your scalp.   So to make up for it, your hair gets greasy as it tries to produce the oils again.  In fact when you start the process of shampooing your hair less, it takes a couple of weeks for your hair to not get greasy anyways because it's so used to having to produce oils EVERY day.

So what's the benefit of shampooing less?  Well, for starters, it's easy to style day old hair.  Remember when you got an updo for a school dance? The stylist would usually tell you to not wash your hair the day of...that's because it's just so much easier to work with day old hair.  Shampooing less actually makes your scalp less oily and it lets your hair get stronger with less breakage.  When you are brushing and heat styling it less and less it let's your hair thrive.

So why don't more people shampoo less?  According to them, their hair starts to stink, their hair looks flat, or they sweat at the gym and feel gross. I have a way to eliminate all those issues. All you need is a shower cap and dry shampoo.

I run every other day, I sweat a lot anyways because I'm so active, and guess what...I still don't shampoo my hair everyday.   I seriously have noticed a change in my budget when it comes to shampoo and conditioner since I don't go through bottles as quickly as I used to.

Dry shampoo is key.... I swear by dry shampoo.   While there are tons of brands out there, I've tried a lot of them and honestly, any brand can get the job done.  Dry shampoo is everything to me.   Not only does it smell good, but it really does make my hair less oily, and it feels so good when the cold blast from the can hits my scalp.

So how do you use dry shampoo?   It's super easy. Seriously, anyone can do it.  This is how I apply dry shampoo...

By the way - my hair was 3 days old here!

[1] Part Hair
When you look in the mirror imagine straight lines going back from your face to the back of your head... you could even call them parts. I imagine one in the center of my head, then I just imagine 3 more lines below that.  The 3rd line goes behind my ears.   Part your hair with your fingers at each of those lines and spray from the front of your head to the back.  Then go on to the next.   When it comes to the bottom half of my hair, I part my hair straight across the back the whole way up and down my head.  It's kinda like the method you use for putting in clip in hair extensions.

[2] Let It Sit
Some people say you should rub it in right away  but I find that if I let it sit for a minute or so, all over my head, it has time to absorb the oil and then I can give it a light massage with my fingertips.

[3] Brush
Just so your hair doesn't get tangled, you should always brush it out.  This also makes the excess dry shampoo go into your hair strands.

It's that simple. You can use dry shampoo every day or just as needed.   And I'm telling you it gets rid of that old hair smell, and it makes your scalp feel refreshed.  When I use it, people can't even tell that I haven't washed my hair in a few days.

Whenever you do shower, make sure you pull your hair up and use a shower cap so it doesn't get wet.

Have you used dry shampoo?   How often do you wash your hair?

How I Maintain Daily Runs with A Limited Hairwash Schedule

Tuesday, August 5, 2014

I hate washing my hair everyday and I try to wash it no more than 3 times a week if that.   So, now that I've started running almost everyday it's important that I find a way to maintain a minimal hair wash routine along with my fitness routine.

So here's what I do.

Dry Shampoo// A Girl's Best Friend
I don't know what I'd do without dry shampoo!   I put some in before I go on a run so that it helps soak up the oil right away, and then after a run I let my hair down, and split my hair into sections (Just like with extensions) and spray each section with dry shampoo.  I rub it in with my finger tips and VOILA!   It really does make my hair smell amazing and it honestly feels like it was just washed because my scalp isn't greasy at all.

Shower Cap// My Other Bestie
I still wash my body everyday so it's imperative that I wear a shower cap to cover my hair on the days I don't want to wash it.

Head Wraps// You'd Never Know
Some days I still don't know how to style my unwashed hair and I worry that my greasy roots may come out.  This is where a headwrap comes into play.  No one knows what's underneath!

No Ponytails!// Except When Running
I don't wear my hair in a ponytail unless I'm running because if I do I'll get a crease and then I'll be tempted to brush my hair.  I try to brush only every other day because I don't like spreading the oil throughout my hair and I hate when I brush my hair and it gets wavy.   I just leave it be!

What do you do to get the most from your fitness schedule AND your hair routine?
