A Guide To Central Pennsylvania

Wednesday, July 29, 2020

It's finally warm out and the next few months leave plenty of time to be enjoyed as you enjoy the outdoors or just enjoy running around town.

Central Pennsylvania is a great place and whether you're just visiting or you've lived here all your life, there are plenty of things to do.  Sometimes we forget about places that are local simply because we don't see local stuff as "fun".  So if you need staycation ideas, day dates for you and your friends, or just something to do on your own, here are 25 things to do in Central Pennsylvania this Summer.

Dr. Augello's Health + Body Makeover [Bethlehem, Pennsylvania]

Wednesday, January 27, 2016

Recently I visited a local health and weight loss facility in the Lehigh Valley.  Dr. Augello's Health and Body Makeover program is located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and offers a variety of services including:
//Weight Loss Program
//Infrared Sauna
//Body Wraps
//Self Mastery Technology
//Neuropathy Treatment

As soon as I entered Dr. Augello's facility I was greated by some of the most friendly women I've ever met.  Everyone was dressed so professionally and they were so sweet and kind.  I immediately felt comfortable even though I wasn't what to expect.  I was taken to an empty office where I watched an introductory video by Dr. Augello about his weight loss program and some of his other offerings.  After the video was done I got to meet with Dr. Augello himself!  He was very nice and explained the whole program, all the options, and hwo it works.

So let's take a closer look at what's offered, what I got to look into, and what you can take advantage of.

//Customized Weight Loss Programs.  So many people jump on the bandwagon of fad diets and unhealthy means to lose weight.  If you aren't doing it the correct way it won't last.  At Dr. Augello's office they use a testing system to determine what's keeping YOU from losing weight.  Then they customize a weight loss program just for you with specifics for your body type and your own goals.  They have different programs like Candida Weight Loss, Hormone Balancing, and Sugar Handling.   With the proper program you can have increased energy, lower cholesterol, better digestion, a clearer head and skin, and obviously lose weight!

//Infrared Sauna. The coolest thing I've seen lately is their Infrared Sauna.  It uses an infrared band of light that your body perceives as heat.  This makes your body expend energy to cool down and produce sweat.  You can sweat 1000 grams or more in one session which is equal to running 6-9 miles.  Obviously you gain some weight back from rehydrating but the sweat helps release built up toxins.  I actually got to try out their Infrared Sauna for 20 minutes. Not only was it super relaxing but it felt great to sweat out my toxins and I felt like a new woman afterwards.

//Body Wraps.  With these body wraps for weight loss you can lose 4" to 14" in an hour.  The wrap process encourages circulatory and lymphatic flow which causes HEALTHY inch loss through internal cleansing.  I can't even begin to describe how amazing this was.  I got a body wrap for about 40 minutes.  It was really comfortable actually.  They put on this cream that smelled amazing and then the girl wrapped me up in medical grade wrap and I got to lay in a recliner.  Then she put on an amazing self mastery program (I'll get to that below) and I basically took a nap for 40 minutes.  My body was so relaxed.  After 40 minutes was up she cut the wrap off. I actually felt firmer in every area I was wrapped.

//Self Mastery Technology.  The power of the mind, I'm tellin' ya!  Basically you put on these awesome things called ZenFrames that use a synchronized pulse of light and sound to relax you and allow optimum brainwave activity for learning, focus, and memory.  While I was doing my wrap I got to put these on and I fell asleep but as I did I was hearing what the voices in the headphones were saying, basically instilling good healthy habits in my brain.  I'm telling you when I woke up I not only felt energized but I noticed I've been making better choices, some of which I remember hearing in the tape they played.

//Neuropathy Treatment. This facility has a way to assist people suffering from Neuropathy which is a degenerative condition of the nervous system.  It can be very painful and Dr. Augello's facility  uses innovative treatments to increase circulation and blood flow and accelerate the healing reversal or symptoms.  If you suffer from Neuropathy you should contact his office today to see what they can do for you!

Everyone in the office that day seemed to have nothing but great things to say about the results they had and the lifestyle changes they went through and have adapated to.

If you live anywhere near Bethlehem, whether it's 5 minutes or 2 hours (like I do) I encourage you to make the drive to check them out.  You can call their office at 484-866-0338 to make an appointment or call 1-888-BURNFAT to get more information on the program! You can also visit their website here: http://www.weightloss-lehighvalley.com

I RAN MY FIRST 5K!!!!

Friday, September 5, 2014

Me and my friend (James' sister) Vicki, one of the organizers.

AHHHHHH! I did it I did it!! I ran my first 5K and I'm checking it off my 30 Before I'm 30 Bucket List!  It was for the Central Pennsylvania Free to Breathe Lung Cancer Awareness Run/Walk in Harrisburg, PA on August 23, 2014.

Below is my time and ranking. I came in 52 overall, 7th in my age group, and 11th in my gender!!

OMG

I am so stoked and proud of myself.  A year ago, I never thought I would ever ever ever run a 5K.  It was super nerve-racking. The night before I was so wound up and excited that I could barely sleep!   The morning of, my alarm didn't go off so I woke up an hour later than I wanted to but it kin of helped kickstart me.

It was a rainy day and I was worried that would affect me or even make me slip going over the bridge which was part of our route.
At the starting line!

I had my playlist all ready to go so once I hit play there was only a few seconds before we all took off.  Initially I freaked myself out because I was running towards the front which I guess I didn't think I would be doing that.  For the first 15-20 seconds I remember my gut feeling as if it was twisted and shaking inside of me.  I kept thinking "Am I going too fast?"  or "Am I on the right side of the path?"  "Can I do this?"  I finally just told myself to shutup and just run and go with my feelings.

I had to take a few second walk breaks to catch my breathe but it wasn't as bad as I thought.

This was what I initially planned to wear, but then I switched into my Bella Capris!

Oh and I packed my inhaler, an ice pack for my achilles tendon, and a brace which I had to put on afterwards!

My leggings were the Bella Ladies Capri Fit Legging from ApparelnBags.com which I had got free from the company for a review!  They were so comfortable and breathable so it really helped me run to my best ability!

A Date at Bonefish Grill // #HelloNewMenu

Wednesday, August 20, 2014

This site has affiliate links and sponsored content. Read my Disclosure Policy.
Over the weekend me and James celebrated our anniversary (one year and 5 months to be exact) at Bonefish Grill.  They actually have a new menu out and it has something for everyone!  They have delicious Rib-Eye Steaks or NY Strips with topping choices that include White Truffle Butter or Creamy Bacon and Mushroom Sauce.

And if you love seafood like I do you will love the new selections which include Spicy Tuna Bowl that comes with super fluffy jasmine rice!

For appetizers, I mean for drinks, We started off with a Raspberry Martini and James had Sam Adams Oktoberfest.

 Our server was so awesome. He was the friendliest person ever and was making hilarious jokes with us which is perfect because we are both big jokesters!

For our appetizer we tried the new Cold Snap Fresh Ceviche.  It literally came in a frozen glass made of ice.  Inside were chilled bay scallops, shrimp, fresh fish, vegetables, avocado, jalapeno, citrus, cilantro, and it was served with a side of warm tortilla chips.  This was seriously delicious! It was just enough to hold us over but not too much to take away from our dinner appetite.

For dinner, James had the Sirloin + Crab Cake Dinner.  It was a 6 oz. steak, a Maryland Style Crab Cake and came with some fresh veggies. He was absolutely satisfied after this meal.

And of course for me I had Lily's Salmon.  It was salmon served with goat cheese, spinach, artichoke hearts, lemon basil sauce, and broccoli and jasmine rice.  Seriously this was delicious.  The goat cheese melted in my mouth and I mixed it all up so I could have some with every bite of salmon and rice!  I loved how this was presented also.

If you haven't been out to Bonefish Grill yet since they started their new menu make sure you go soon!    This is one of my favorite restaurants of all time and I've never had a bad experience!

There's a First Time for Everything.... So Join Me!

Monday, July 14, 2014

Guess what I'm doing this Summer for the first time EVER?!   I'm going to be RUNNING (not walking this time) in an actual 5k!  So here's some info about it and how you can join me if you're local!

When is it?
August 23, 2014 at 8:45 AM

Where is it?
Harrisburg, PA on City Island and Riverfront Park.

What is it?
Organized by Free To Breathe, their mission is to help double lung cancer survival.  The money raised goes towards vital research programs that are dedicated to finding a way to survive for people affected by lung cancer.

Why am I participating?

This actually is a way for me to support my friend Vicki.  Since I know what it's like to lose your best friend, I am supporting Vicki because her best friend passed away from Lung Cancer.  She had suffered from an intestinal cancer before that in 2008 so she had a very long journey that her friends stood by her through.

Just imagine having to watch one of your best friends or family members suffer slowly and there's NOTHING you can do.
So to help her legacy live on I'm running in her memory.
I've NEVER run one of these things before, I just walked the mile last year so this is going to be interesting.  I'm actually spending the next 2 months before this event running on an almost daily basis to get myself ready.  It's a great reason to make myself start exercising more!
How Can You Help?
You can donate here.
Or you can register to run or walk and make sure you search for Team Kendra so you can join on my team!!
If you plan to attend make sure you check out the Facebook Event.
You can find all the event information here.

Meet Apollo's Sun...A Poetically Realistic Hip Hop Artist

Monday, January 13, 2014

Whether you're from the Central Pennsylvania area or you live across the country, there's much to appreciate from the sounds of Apollo's Sun. I was first introduced to him in the Fall when I attended a local hip hop show. Apollo's Sun caught my eye instantly because of his down to earth vibe mixed with lyrics I found very relatable. It's no surprise that he meditates like I do, which is probably how I sensed his down to earth vibe (I'm telling you people give off a glow!)  but I also found his lyrics sharp and thorough. I get irritated when I hear songs with lyrics that rhyme but don't make sense. I believe true talent tells a story whether it rhymes or not and if you want people to comprehend what you say, it's best to speak in a language they can understand. So without further ado, let me introduce you to Apollo's Sun and let him answer some questions about himself.  And stay tuned because he'll be featured again on my blog, next time with a giveaway and some information on how fashion and music relate for him!

What does your name (Apollo’s Sun) mean and how did you get it?
In Greek mythology, Apollo was the deity that represented music, the sun, light, poetry, truth. As a 13 year old who thought he was MUCH wiser than he really was at the time, I felt I related to the ideals Apollo represented. I wanted to manifest those properties to the world. With that said, the Sun was originally “son” as if my “mask” I wore while writing was spawned from Apollo. I was a weird kid, thinking much deeper than I probably should have at that point in life. I changed the spelling because I wanted to bring light to darkness like the sun does…the sun promotes positive growth in life, and through music, I want to do the same. I came up with the name, and people thought it was nifty, so it stuck.

You have been doing this since you were 13.  How exactly did you start, or what was the turning point that you knew this is what you wanted to pursue?
I started writing in my 7th grade history class because I couldn’t stand the teacher and it was the only way for me to escape her monotonous lessons. I was a fan of hip hop music since I was about 10 years old and always enjoyed writing stories, poems, love notes to the girls, etc. Writing a rhyme was an extension of all the other styles of writing I tried my hand at, and the one that I instantly fell in love with. I’m not sure if I had an exact “turning point” where I decided I’d pursue this as long as I have, it just sort of happened. I started writing, and my brother-in-law is a performing musician in the area who had equipment. He showed me some stuff, and then I was off to the races, spending all of my money on equipment to record demo tapes.

What are you like as William Krouse II?
I am a confused 30 year old, conflicted by my own doubts, held back by my own insecurities, and kept alive by my desire to live a better life tomorrow. I have small pockets of motivation where I eat correctly, workout, and meditate daily that last a few months, so my discipline is sporadic. I’m very sensitive and often take things personal, but have a lot of passion and a desire to rid myself of my ego every day. I’m attending college for music business and have no clue where I’ll end up with that. I work as a chauffeur because I can’t stand working inside of small spaces for long periods of time. As a musician, I have chosen one of the most difficult businesses to make money in and often kick myself for not choosing something more lucrative for a career. BUT, I also know money isn’t worth the paper it is printed on, so my smarter self likes to remind my dumber self that life is NOT about accumulating paper, and is about accumulating memories. My scrapbook is thick.

What sets you apart from the rest and makes you unique?
Unless there’s a doppelganger floating around somewhere, I’m unique because I am the only me. There is nobody else striking keyboard keys to respond to you in the way that I do it. The way I smile is all mine. Sure, it’s influenced by dna and what not, but it is mine. In terms of music, there are tons of other lyricists who have come before me that are better and more seasoned. I’m unique because in a genre where everybody thinks they are better than the next man or want to show off their “stuff” that they own, I’m over here with my little flag that reads “WAKE UP!!!” I will never say I’m better than another person or artist, and only want to help other people live to their highest “light,” and potential. What makes me unique as an artist is that I do not lie in my music, and do not sell you unreasonable ideas.

Obviously every musician and artist is their own being, but how would you describe your sound?
I write emotional songs, and do my best to lay those words over strong drum sounds and progressive melodies. Hip hop and rap music are represented very poorly in mainstream media. I don’t listen to anything on the radio because it’s terrible and makes it difficult for people like me to get anywhere. I’m not sure who I sound like, but often have people telling me my music reminds them of people like Atmosphere and Sage Francis, with a touch of Everlast. I have no clue how people define my music, I’m just relaying what I’m told.

On your website you say “I was horrible until I recognized my flaws and decided I had to get better.”   That’s such a great positive message for everyone out there regardless of what their passion or career is in.  Can you explain how you do that?
I do my best to look at myself with an unbiased perspective. My own momma will tell you I am my own worst critic. Becoming a better version of you isn’t easy, and is often an ugly process. You have to be honest about who you are, and find the parts you want to improve. With music, anybody who tells me what they find “wrong” with my music, I already knew it as soon as I wrote the song. I wrote a book and have found more mistakes after I published it than any person who read it. I recently quit smoking. How? I realized how pointless and ignorant it is to pay a company that is knowingly trying to addict me to toxic substances and refused to give them any more of my health and money. Your heart and mind know what is right and best, you just need to not be afraid of what others think of you. It’s YOUR life, so do the right thing. Your right thing may not be MY right thing, but whatever it is, do THAT.

When does your inspiration for your lyrics hit you?
Inspiration for lyrics always occurs after a bad experience, regardless of what it is. If I’m angry, sad, fighting with a loved one, etc. I start writing songs in my head as I’m in the middle of the experience. For example, if I’m arguing with a person, as I argue, I’m re-writing the argument in my head as a song lyric in real time. Weird, I know. I associate music and sounds in my own head as I experience life. I wish I could have a full band follow me around every day to play along to my life. My heart beats like a drum and my mind moves like a quill; all day, every day. I also have a tendency to wake up around 3 a.m. to words running through my head. I like writing late at night because there are less people awake. The night air feels more “open” to me, if that makes sense.

Where would you love to be in your career in the next 5 years and how do you plan to get there?
I’d love to not have to work for any other person, and that the necessities I need to survive in life are provided through my efforts in music. I currently have no clue how to get there because it seems like a lot of luck is needed in addition to the hard work. I know what hard work feels like, and maybe I don’t work hard enough. It takes a network of people to help you achieve goals in life, and I can only do so much without a manager and team behind me. Maybe I need to sit down and make a list. Yes. My current plan is to make a list. I’ll figure the rest out and let you know after my list is complete. Haha.

Any upcoming shows or album releases for you?
I have a few shows that are in their planning stages for 2014. Some of them will take me out of the state of Pennsylvania, which is always fun. I like traveling to share music. I wish everybody had a chance to experience that feeling. I always have ideas for records to put out, so 2014 will have a few new releases as well. I’m currently working on a project in conjunction with a record label called Cult Classic Records, based in London. I hope that will be released during the first quarter of the New Year. Other than that, I hope to be better than I am today. I hope to have more smiles to share that influence others to share smiles with others. Share those smiles, folks, you never know who needs to see them.
