What to Bring to a 5K

Tuesday, September 16, 2014

Last month I ran my first 5K and I couldn't be more proud of myself, not only for how I performed, but how I prepared as well.

Here are 5 things I brought with me that really helped!

1. LA Fresh Female Hygiene Wipes
These are great for right after a run when you don't necessarily want to change clothes but you want to freshen up.
2. Chill Towel
My magical towel that makes me cooler instantly.   This helps prevent any headaches I normally get when I run too hard and get too overheated!
3. LA Fresh Instant Body Soother
Sometimes my skin gets itchy from sweat and the 5k was no different thanks to the rain and sweat.   This is perfect for a quick wipe down of my skin.
4. Shower Pill
The Shower Pill is an enormous wipe that helps you freshen up and is big enough to use on your whole body.
5. Go Sport ID Band
This is engraved with a motivating quote that I chose (What does not kill me makes me stronger) and on the back is my ICE (In Case of Emergency) which has my mom and dad's names and numbers.  This is great for when you go on a run or hike by yourself but I always felt it would be important incase something were to happen during the face.  I also changed out the band from my usual green to purple!
What do you bring along when you go to a race?

I RAN MY FIRST 5K!!!!

Friday, September 5, 2014

Me and my friend (James' sister) Vicki, one of the organizers.

AHHHHHH! I did it I did it!! I ran my first 5K and I'm checking it off my 30 Before I'm 30 Bucket List!  It was for the Central Pennsylvania Free to Breathe Lung Cancer Awareness Run/Walk in Harrisburg, PA on August 23, 2014.

Below is my time and ranking. I came in 52 overall, 7th in my age group, and 11th in my gender!!

OMG

I am so stoked and proud of myself.  A year ago, I never thought I would ever ever ever run a 5K.  It was super nerve-racking. The night before I was so wound up and excited that I could barely sleep!   The morning of, my alarm didn't go off so I woke up an hour later than I wanted to but it kin of helped kickstart me.

It was a rainy day and I was worried that would affect me or even make me slip going over the bridge which was part of our route.
At the starting line!

I had my playlist all ready to go so once I hit play there was only a few seconds before we all took off.  Initially I freaked myself out because I was running towards the front which I guess I didn't think I would be doing that.  For the first 15-20 seconds I remember my gut feeling as if it was twisted and shaking inside of me.  I kept thinking "Am I going too fast?"  or "Am I on the right side of the path?"  "Can I do this?"  I finally just told myself to shutup and just run and go with my feelings.

I had to take a few second walk breaks to catch my breathe but it wasn't as bad as I thought.

This was what I initially planned to wear, but then I switched into my Bella Capris!

Oh and I packed my inhaler, an ice pack for my achilles tendon, and a brace which I had to put on afterwards!

My leggings were the Bella Ladies Capri Fit Legging from ApparelnBags.com which I had got free from the company for a review!  They were so comfortable and breathable so it really helped me run to my best ability!

Beginning to Run + Running in Heat + Shape Diva Dash

Tuesday, July 15, 2014

Despite the 90 degree temperatures last week I ran 6 out of 7 days.   I was working on 2-2.5 miles so that this week I can work towards 3.

I began running again last month. It's the only exercise I can do and not get sick of.   I think that's because running is something where I can see my progress since I'm literally taking steps and moving forward.  I've been reading up on some random tips from other runners like whether or not to wear underwear under your running pants (lol), toe calluses, and how to train for a 5K.  Any tips you have would be awesome!

I'm training for a 5K at the end of August which you can read about here.

I also just signed up for the Shape Magazine Diva Dash in September. I'm super stoked, it's near Philly so it's close and it looks like a great challenge.

Are any of you planning to attend either event?
