Whether you’ve just started seeing someone or you’ve been married for years, date nights are an important way of showing how much you appreciate someone. When you end up busy with life and with a family, it can be hard to make time or dedicate money to a date night, but it’s absolutely worth the effort to allow you to focus on each other for an evening.
If you’re concerned about spending too much money, one way to save money on a date night is to have a date night in. The kids can have a sleepover at someone else’s, allowing you to have an evening and a night free to yourselves. If this sounds like a nice idea, here are some tips to help you plan your romantic meal in.
Your Menu
It makes sense that one thing you want to focus on would be what to eat. Some couples like to cook together and then eat, but this isn’t a rule. Sometimes it’s nice to surprise your significant other with a menu that blows them out of the water.
A three-course meal is a good idea, but make sure to keep the portions relatively small. You don’t want to overeat and feel bloated on date night. You should also choose ingredients that are a bit special but aren’t too difficult to prepare. You don’t want to spend your whole day stressing out.
For example, you could start with a small charcuterie board that’s easy to put together. Then you could move onto lobster tails with a dressed salad. Then you could finish on a nice white chocolate mousse with strawberries. A lot of this could come together very quickly and then be ready to serve.
Drinks With Food
You also shouldn’t forget about what to drink. If you drink alcohol, wine is often a popular date night option. But you could make cocktails or mocktails as well, so it feels a little different and slightly more special.
It also helps to have a water carafe so you’re both comfortable and hydrated while you’re eating.

Dressing Up
Even though you’re having a date night at home, this doesn’t mean that you can just dress as you would while relaxing normally. If you’re going to show your appreciation for someone you love, it helps to make an effort, especially if you don’t often get to see each other all dressed up.
You don’t need to go all out and dress in black tie, but dress as though you would for a date normally. This applies to the guys as well. A shirt, slacks, and freshly combed hair can go a long way.

Creating an Atmosphere
So, you’re both dressed up, the food is ready to serve, and you have drinks. What’s missing? Well, the atmosphere is what will really set this apart from any other meal.
So get some candles or a flower for the table, put some nice music on in the background, and make sure that you feel like you’re on a date.
