Many people like to claim that they want to change their bodies. But how will you actually feel once it's done? After you go through a transformation, it's sometimes unclear what the emotional and psychological payoff at the end of it is.

That's what we're going to look at with this post. We're looking at how your emotions will adapt following weight loss, muscle gain, or body recomposition. We'll also explore the effects of cosmetic surgery and how they can lead to profound mental shifts in some people. If you've ever gone through this life experience, you'll know that it changes the way that you see the world. You often have a brand new perspective on how things are.

How you'll feel physically

The physical changes are probably the most obvious. Many people report feeling lighter and more buoyant, especially after weight loss. They can't believe how easy it is to move their bodies around. Everything just feels easier, whether it's running across a tennis court or simply breathing while sitting on the couch.

Furthermore, there's a change in how workouts feel. In the past, they would often feel punishing and difficult, but now they seem to be so much more rewarding. The body has adjusted and even enjoys hard physical activity. It's a challenge and even restful in some cases. At the same time, body transformations often lead to strength gains. These can show up quickly in most cases, with a lot of people adding huge amounts of strength in a relatively short amount of time. When this happens, a lot of things change as well:

their posture improves
they have better overall mobility
they're more flexible

At the same time, digestion is boosted, exercise helps the stomach process foods and produce healthy stools. Bloating and crashes are less likely when exercise and strength are a part of life. Then there is the rest factor. People who do a lot of exercise tend to sleep better at night and recover more than the following day. Even though exercise is challenging, it can push the body to get into a healthier rhythm.

Finally, when it comes to physical improvements, there are often differences in skin and body awareness. For example, sometimes skin can feel softer once lifestyle improves. Being nourished by proper foods from the inside makes it healthier and more supple. At the same time, hair growth can shift. Sometimes it becomes stronger and more vibrant. Then there are improvements in how clothes fit. They drape over the body more elegantly and look better in silhouette.

For anybody going through this process, it's often a good idea to take progress photos. These show changes over time so that they can really be tracked. It's often remarkable what a different six months of consistent effort can make for the average person.

One of the first things you'll notice when you go through a significant body change is that it boosts your confidence and optimism. All of a sudden, you have a different outlook on life. You feel able to carry yourself differently.

You don't have to actively think about being more confident; it's just something that happens. Other people in your life will notice that you are more outgoing and less anxious and depressed. You really want to take on the world.

This is particularly true if you ever go to the dentist to get your teeth fixed. Even small changes here can make an enormous difference. Many people report Serenity Smiles and cosmetic dentistry can have a tremendous impact. The great thing about modern interventions is that almost any problem can now be fit, even if you have crooked teeth or an overbite or missing teeth, prosthetics and orthodontics can deal with all of it. The same has been true for skin. If you have the right skincare routines and retinoids, then removing pimples and blemishes is relatively straightforward. It just requires consistent effort, allowing you to be more optimistic and confident in general.

For many people, making these changes feels like their mental fog lifts, everything in life feels sharper and more focused, enabling them to have higher standards. They're less about people-pleasing and more interested in abundance.

While confidence and optimism is the main effect of going through a transformation, it also produces a sense of pride and accomplishment. You realize that you can do it and that you really have the self-discipline to build something that's incredible. You're not just proud of what you see in the mirror in terms of your reflection, but you also respect yourself on a deeper level. You know that if you commit to something, you are going to follow through. You are not just going through the motions.

You see this in people who commit to fitness and weight loss. After a couple of years of getting into the habit, it's something that often sticks with them for life. They're not about to change.

Of course, it's not always as straightforward as many of the gurus online might want you to believe. Going through a body transformation and changing your psychology for the better is a complex process. Sometimes there can be backsliding.

What's interesting about this approach is that you might not recognize yourself at first. Sometimes the changes can be so dramatic that it undermines your old identity. Many people feel insecure, temporarily, when changing their bodies and can experience body dysmorphia. If this happens, then it's always worth talking to a therapist or a counselor who has experience in these issues. They can guide you through dramatic changes and help you.

Usually, long-term identity shifts take a while to manifest. If you go through a dramatic transformation, it can take time for you to feel at home in your body. However, if you push through, you'll experience all of the benefits that come with positive change, like more resilience, strength, and energy. You'll simply be able to do more in your life.
