Pet expenses can be scary. I had a big bill before for Grace (rest her soul) and I was so unprepared that I had to crowd fund to afford it. By the way, I discuss it in an article with the Seattle Times! When I got Grace in 2007 it was before pet insurance was even really a thing. But also, when it did become a thing I did a lot of research and I learned it really wasn't for me.

Why I Don't Have Pet Insurance

People think that because I have small dogs they don't need outdoor exercise or daily walks. But the truth is, my dogs LOVE going for the evening walk. We may not go very far since of course Chihuahuas are so small that even a block can be a workout in warm weather but we still go on them and if I even get close to skipping a walk, my dogs let me know it's time!

Well, the last time I did a post like this it was with my original wolfpack. You can read about them here still, as I'm not yet ready to change that part of my blog. And I ended up losing all of them in a 3 year period. Stella in 2020, Pixie in 2022, and Rocky and Grace in 2023. But during that time I was also adding to my wolfpack to build up a new one. And with 3 out of 4 of them (I just love having 4 for some reason) here now, I figured I should introduce them.

So your children have been BEGGING for a hamster or guinea big and you've finally caved in.....
And I bet you're feeling pretty nervous because there's a lot of things that COULD go wrong like the little guy escaping, chewing through the wall, and eventually leaving a smell behind when he expires.

So if you've been a long time reader and you follow me on social media, you've likely seen I've lost all of my original 4 chihuahuas. We lost Stella unexpectedly at 10.5 years old in July of 2020. In July of 2022 we lost Pixie (my first dog ever) at just shy of 17 years old. And then of course in February 2023 we lost Rocky at the age of 18 years and 8 months. And finally, on September 1st, 2023, I lost Grace just after her 16th birthday. That's a lot of loss in a 3 year period and many have asked how I managed to survive. So today, I'm sharing some of the ways I coped in the hopes that it can help others feel strong enough to endure their losses.

When you’re a mom, keeping your home clean can seem like an impossible
feat. You may feel like you’re constantly picking up and trying to keep
things clean, especially if this is a big priority for you. Even when
the entire family pitches in on cleaning, it’s still a big job. Adding a
dog or pet to that can make things even more challenging.
When you’re a dog or pet owner, your four-legged friends might have a habit of making huge messes, plus there tend to be ongoing problems like fur and odors.
So is it possible to have a home that’s kid and pet-friendly, but is also clean and well-maintained?
The answer is yes, with tips like the ones below.

I have talked before about how I decided that a pet fund was better for me than pet insurance
but every person is different. If however, you are like me and you
want to set money aside every month for the care of your pets, this post
is for you!

As a dog mom of 4 Chihuahuas, I
would say I have a decent amount of experience on the products and hacks
that make dog mom life easier. So I figured I’d share them today
because sometimes reading about hacks and tips NOW can help you when
you’re brainstorming for an idea in the future.

I really am a certified pro when it comes to senior dogs anymore, so I started thinking about putting a post together with some tips that can help others care for their ageing dogs without having to learn lessons the hard way. Sometimes all it takes is one fall down a step for an emergency vet visit to drain your wallet. So here are some tips to keep in mind when caring for senior dogs.

Pet emergencies are the worst thing ever and they always seem to happen at the most inconvenient times, like weekends when your regular vet is closed, or even overnight! As someone who has owned dogs for the last 16 years, I figured I'd put together a post about how you can be more prepared for when emergencies do happen.

**This is an old post I'm reposting - at the time I had 4 seniors. Now I have 3 seniors and a puppy!**
People always say when they find out I have 4 SENIOR chihuahuas that I
must be broke. Now, when I first had 4 chihuahuas I was definitely
struggling but then it got to a point where I realized I needed to get
my stuff together and set money aside for not just their regular vet
expenses but also any emergencies. And when Rocky was diagnosed with
his heart issue and I learned he’d need 2 cardiologist appointments a
year, I started doing some specific things to save money overall. The
things I’m about to list below are what have worked for me. They could
work for you too but don’t be afraid to tailor my advice to better suit
your specific needs.

As most of you know, we got our new puppy Daisy in October and it's been a wild ride....not really, but I was used to my senior chihuahuas so I almost forgot what it was like to have a puppy because it's been so long. But I wanted to do a post to help other pet parents with their new puppies so I figured I'd post some of the things I did to help Daisy fit into our wolfpack.

One of my biggest fears as a dog mom is that one of my babies will wander off, never to return, or that if they're found, the person who finds them won't know how to get them back to me. Since my dogs are small and Chihuahuas can have issues with their throats being injured with collars, we usually don't put collars on them. We use a harness when on the leash but when we are just sitting on the patio, we usually just have them on our laps with nothing on their necks. But now I have found something that's not bulky and makes it so easy for my pups to make it home if they do wander off. It's Undercollar and it's a genius product!

So for months and months I have seen ads for Pup Mom Crate which I always thought was pretty cool to have a monthly subscription service for fellow dog moms like myself. I finally caved in and took advantage of a buy one get one deal and got the November box and December box. Below is what came in each and my honest opinions!

Our pets are a huge part of our lives no matter what kind of pets reside in your home. And for someone like me who always thinks of EVERYTHING, it's no surprise I have that in mind when I plan for emergencies. But it got easier to do that for me now because I use something called The Pet Parent Alert Kit from The Petmosphere.

I'm keeping this short and sweet because that's all I can do right now. Last Wednesday we lost Stella unexpectedly. I woke up to find her early Wednesday morning. It's been a shock and so tragic for us. We are doing the best we can and navigating through our grief. Stella was 10 1/2.
Here is a tribute post I wrote for her:
Please keep us in your thoughts.
