Once again, I'm here to write about simplifying life and this time it involves friendships. Someone once said "I'd rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies." I repeat that quote constantly when it comes to friendships. I have many friends but I have a core circle that I hold especially close and that doesn't mean it's a friend group where everyone has the same bond. My friends come from all different walks of life and some don't even know each other well. But having a small core group of friends has been so rewarding and this is why.

Why a Small Circle of Friends is a Good Thing

From the moment we could walk and talk as children we began to form friendships by interacting with our peers. Sometimes it was over common ground like being into the same toys and other times it was simply because our parents were best friends so we spent a lot of time together when they would hang out. Either way, friendships have always been a crucial part to the life of a human being whether you're young or old, male or female, shy or outgoing. Friendships allow you to thrive by bonding with other people, having a support system in place, and always having someone to laugh at your jokes.
In this post I wanted to talk a little bit more in depth about friendships and what they really should consist of. There is a big difference between a toxic friend and a friend that helps you thrive, but sometimes it's hard for us to see that when we have known the person for so long.
So let's talk about friendship.

Whether you're single or in a relationship, there are some things that only girlfriends can do with you that you won't get judged for. So here are 20 of them:
1// Gossip
You talk about someone one day and the next day you say hi to them and fake that you are interested in what they have to say. Your boyfriend may judge you for it, but your girlfriends won't. Men definitely think we are batshit crazy that way!
2//Cry
It's okay to cry. Over anything....really! Your girlfriends always know what to say to make you feel better!

3//Celebrate Silly Dates and Anniversaries
The day you first met, the one year mark at your job, and even your dogs birthday...Yes, your girlfriends won't think you are crazy for celebrating those, so go ahead and party!
4//Being Goofy
It's completely okay to send an ugly face photo to your girlfriends every morning...right?
5//Vent
Your coworker pissed you off when she sneezes too loud but your boyfriend might think you are "Overreacting".... Yea right.. your girlfriends will say "Ugh, that bitch is gross!"
6//Sing and Dance while trying on clothing
Dressing rooms and bedrooms are meant for dance parties, especially while you are deciding on outfits. Go ahead and use your hairbrush as a microphone!
7//Stuff your face
Eat whatever you want, she'll understand!
8//Tell Her Your Deepest Darkest Secrets
Lips are sealed!
9//Overanalyze Texts
Ummm did he mean Okay I hate you or Okay I love you? Why didn't he put a period after the word "okay"?!?!
10//Bitch about your period.
Guys just don't get it.
11//Be A Facebook Stalker
She will never judge you, she'll only assist you!
12//Bitch about men for anything and everything.
Seriously, you don't have to feel mean in front of your girlfriends!
13//Talk About your Lady Parts
I mean who else are you gonna talk about that stuff to? Your doctor? Pshht!
14//Act Crazy
Everyone loses their shit. Your girlfriends won't hold it against you!
15//Advise You on Everything
Come on, we've all been there. You can't even reply to a text without your girlfriend sgiving you the okay!
16//They Act as your bodyguards
Seriously... you hurt her, I hurt you, Buddy!
17//Give you better advice than any man ever could.
Duh, girls know best, right? Pick the black dress.... because guys will never admit that you look chubby in the other one!
18//Geak out over food!
PIZZA SUSHI CHINESE TACOS YUM YUM YUM!
19//Tell you the truth.
If anyone will call you out on something, it's definitely going to be your besties!
20//Snuggle/hold hands/hug you ANYTIME ANYWHERE
Because what are best friends for?

As we get older, it naturally becomes more of a challenge to stay close with our friends. Life takes us in different directions with marriage, children, careers, and buying a home.
Recently, on one of my meetups with my blogger bestie Monica from Jersey Girl, Texan Heart, a woman who worked at the vineyard we were at gave me some advice that will always stick with me. She asked where we were from and what we were doing. We explained to her that we were both from different cities 3 hours apart but we drive half-way every 2 months to spend the day together. Her response?
"Always do that. Always. Trust me. It's always important to have a special bond with your girlfriends so always make time for them like this. Make it a special point to find a way to spend time together from time to time."
That being said, I tried to think of some ways me and Monica keep our long distance bond very strong. So here are 4 keys to keeping a close bond with your girlfriend.

Remember Important Dates// Birthdays, wedding anniversaries, sobriety dates, dates your became friends, kid's birthdays, and anything else that's significant in your besties life... write them all down and celebrate them each year even if it's just with a card or a text! My childhood best friend and I send a birthday card to each other every single year even if we barely have spoken or seen each other. It's a cool little thing to look forward to!

Celebrate Holidays// Put your besties on your Christmas list and send them a gift each year. Celebrate anything and everything that you feel like! For Easter, get each other candy, for Halloween, go to a haunted house. The beauty of your girlfriends is that they won't think it's too silly if you celebrate even the goofiest of holidays.

Keep Each Other Informed// I always get upset when I see people post things about how much their friends suck because they never hang out with them. Sometimes adult schedules don't allow for in-person hangouts every week. What's more important is keeping each other informed with your life. It's such a nice thing to have that one person in your life that knows everything that's going on, bad or good. And whether it's texting on the daily or a weekly phone call, it's important to stay up to speed with each other's lives.
How do you keep the bond strong with your friends?

Okay, maybe I should have said ALMOST always uneven in the title, but still, it seems like in almost every situation, a threesome friendship is uneven. A threesome friendship is where 3 girls are inseparable. They are somewhat rare these days, because like I said, there are a lot of complications.
Here are some reasons why they don't work out:
1. Two of the Three have been friends Longer - This is where loyalty may come into play and if things ever go sour, the two friends that have known each other the longest might have each other's back moreso than the third friend. Also, the two that know each other the best usually stick together more so in any situation.
2. Gossip within the Group - It always ends up that once girls start gossiping about each other, secrets begin and perhaps friend 1 will tell friend 2 what friend 3 said about her.
3. 3 is an odd number. It's hard for 3 people to fit into situations where it's only meant for 2 people, whether it be partnering up at a fitness class, or seating on a bus for a trip to New York, it's just easier for jealousy to be avoided when a situation is geared more towards 3 people, or there's only 2 people in the group.
How you can avoid these situations:
1. Diversify your selection of friends - Look for friends from different places in your life, like a gym friend, a friend at work, a friend in your neighborhood or apartment complex, etc. This way you always have friends everywhere you go and they are all separate from each other.
2. Don't Gossip - Just don't gossip about either friend to the other one and you'll never have to worry about being dragged into drama!
Have you ever been in a threesome friendship that ended with complications?
