Tips for Staying Cool at Summer Weddings

Monday, June 18, 2018

Summer weddings are great! They're outside, there's great scenery for photos, and the lighting is always great even at night.  But if you're a guest to a summer wedding and you aren't prepared for the heat then you can really be miserable.

So today I have a few tips for you to follow when you're attending weddings this summer so you can stay cool, comfortable, and enjoy your time.

Wear Light Colors (but not white!)
If you wear a black dress or a dark blue dress you are going to regret it once the sun starts beating down on you. Dark colors attract the sunshine and you'll start to feel really overheated.  You can wear white if there's a pattern on it (floral is always nice for a wedding), or stick to pastel colors.  But seriously do NOT wear an all white dress or you are committing a major faux pas!

Go Sleeveless
If at all possible, opt for a dress that has very short sleeves or none at all.  If you're concerned about getting a chill later in the evening or if the reception is inside, just bring a cardigan along.

Hair Up
Since you may be sweating, your hairstyle can get ruined as it gets stuck to your neck and back so it's always a good idea to wear your hair up for an outdoor wedding especially in the hot months.  If you wear it down, bring along hair ties so you can put it up once you start dancing the night away.

Body Wipes and Mini Deodorant
You know that adorable little clutch you are planning to wear to the wedding? Well, load it up with some body wipes, powder to touch up your facial makeup, and a mini stick of deodorant so you can reapply in the bathroom and ensure you smell fresh all night long. Weddings and receptions can span an entire half a day so it's ALWAYS a good idea to freshen up halfway through.

Open Shoes
Most people complain that if their feet are hot, the rest of their body begins to overheat.  So wear open toed shoes or sandals.  Even flats and pumps that cover your toes can get hot and stuffy and start to stink.

How do you handle weddings in the summer heat?

THE Most Chic Leopard Clutch Bag EVER!

I have a new obsession and it's something I recently acquired in my handbag collection. I know a lot of people like to have a plain black or gold clutch but I tend to be drawn towards patterns especially ones that I consider neutral.

Yes, this Leopard Clutch from Milan Blocks is amazing and I consider it a neutral and I'll show you why in a little bit.  So It basically has 3 colors to it - brown, black, and silver glitter.  Tell me those aren't neutrals!! This clutch is an acrylic box and it's easy to hold or keep under your arm at your side. However if you don't want to go strap free, it has a chain inside the box that easily clips on to two little hinges.

It looks so super chic with the chain. I seriously don't know which way I like it better.   It's so roomy too and the shape makes it perfect for carrying my essentials like my phone, keys, a makeup compact, and a mini wallet.

How do I style it? Well one of my favorite things to do is wear solid colors in an outfit and then I'll add leopard print in two places.  Either a scarf and shoes or a necklace and a bag.   As you can see it looks super cute next to the leopard statement necklace I often wear.

You can even get super bold and wear all black and then add leopard boots, scarf, and this clutch.

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm also obsessed with mixing patterns. So I have this adorable peacock feather top and I wore simple black boots and leggings and then added the bag and it goes so well together!

Even if leopard isn't your thing, Milan Blocks has so many adorable clutch box bags to check out.  I really liked the glitter ones too!

Do you own a leopard bag? How do you style it?

Our office had a Holiday Party right before Christmas and I had a blast. Of course I had to wear a sweater but this time I was super excited because it wasn't ugly. I actually had seen another blogger feature this sweater in an Ugly Christmas Sweater post, and I just had to have it. I mean...helloooooo I AM the crazy Chihuahua lady, right?

Oh and these boots... AH-mazing! I love over the knee boots now! This is the Jayde in Cognac from JustFab!

You know what I love about mint? That you can wear it through every season!! And it's also a slimming color. Okay, so there's a lot of reasons to like it... another one is that it looks great with grey.. a color I have a lot of in my closet!
Mint Cardigan Outfit

All I did here was take a simple grey cami and pair it with dark wash skinnies, taupe boots, and a mint striped cardigan. I love this look. It's casual yet chic!

Cold weather never hurt anyone on a nice leisurely stroll with your pup right? But you know what I can't stand? Bundling up then sweating because it's still kind of warmish out. Yes, I said warmish. The sun warms the air so you aren't freezing, but you still need to be bundled. That's when I turn to a long sleeve tee and a vest, like this pink puffer vest from Hollister. It's comfy, it's cute, and it keeps me warm, but let's me breath. And you know what looks great with it? Leopard Print Boots!!!! It adds a pop of style to the somewhat simple look.

If there's one thing I love about this cold weather it's the ability to wear a scarf and feel cozy. Oh, okay if there's two things than the second would be the colors. Just like this outfit, I love wearing two fall colors...like a royal purple cardigan with a yellow/gold skinny jeans. And a scarf just adds to the already cozy look.
