Simplify Your Health

One aspect of life that can be simplified with many benefits is your health.  I've heard people say they feel overwhelmed by trying to stay healthy and keep up with things pertaining to their health so here are a few ways to simplify your health overall, whether you have a health goal in mind or you just want to make this part of your life more manageable.

Schedule Appointments
When possible, schedule your annual exams for the entire year.  A great way to keep on top of this is whenever you are checking out at an appointment, set up your next one while you're there. This allows you to eliminate the burden of having to call in or figure out an online scheduling system.  As soon as you get home, make sure your appointment is added to your calendar so you don't forget.  Some appointments can't be scheduled super far in advance so for those, put a note on your calendar a month or so in advance of the normal appointment month that reminds you to make the appointment.

Create a Routine
If you want to incorporate better personal care habits and exercise habits, you have to create a routine so it becomes something that you do out of habit.  Set up a routine of what days you'll exercise and what days you'll rest.  Write it down or create a nice little calendar for yourself just for exercise so you feel encouraged to actually follow the routine.  For personal care things like waxing, plucking, washing your face, etc., you absolutely have to create a regular routine and schedule for these things.  Set certain days of the week or month to do face masks, foot soaks, etc. so that these things are being taken care of without you having to stress out about when to do them.   If you want to start meditating - select a window of time each day where you will work on that.  For some people it may be right when they wake up or maybe right after work.

Meal Plan
I wrote a simple guide to meal planning which can help you get started.  For me, I meal plan for 2 weeks out and create a grocery list with the items I'll need.  This takes the guesswork out of what to make each day, how to make it, and it uses up the ingredients I have on hand so nothing's going to waste. If you are working on a health goal with nutrition, this is a great way to ensure you have healthy meals planned out so you aren't tempted to get take out or eat junk food.

Track Habits
A fitness tracker is a great way to track your progress and encourage you to work on your health.  Not only can you track exercise and achievements but you can log food, track your mood, and check up on your sleep habits.  This is a great way to have everything in one place to give you an overview and when you see issues arise it's a way you can share the information and concerns with your doctor.

Avoid Trends
It seems everywhere you look there are quick fix solutions for skin issues, weight loss, and getting nutrients in your diet.  Avoid these things as they can add expenses and extra tasks and clutter to your home and your life.  Instead, stick with the basics.  Instead of taking a supplement that provides you with the same benefit as eating a handful of almonds everyday for instance, just add the nuts into your daily routine as a morning snack.  When you are looking at skincare products, get something that does many things all in one jar.  Why bother using 5 different products before bed when 2 or 3 can get the job done...maybe even just one!

Cut Bad Habits
Smoking, overeating, procrastinating, and drinking too much or too often are bad habits that add clutter and stress to your life and your health in the long run. Work on cutting out bad habits.  Limit yourself with bad habits when possible like if you have become too used to a glass of wine every night before bed, change it to only doing it on the weekends or only once a week.
