My Key to A Clean House

I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Scrubbing Bubbles®.  I received product samples and a promotional item to thank me for participating.

Everyone knows that I am a clean freak whether it’s at work, in the car, or at home.  I also don’t like clutter so I try to eliminate multiples of things like household cleaning products.  If I can find one good product that gets the job done, I only need to keep that product on hand in the future.   This time of year is very hectic with guests coming and going so I had to find one product that I absolutely loved when it came to keeping one of the most often used rooms, the bathroom, clean and tidy. 

My go-to product is Scrubbing Bubbles® Multi Surface Bathroom Cleaner and I can’t tell you enough how much it has impressed me the past couple weeks.  Scrubbing Bubbles® Multi Surface Bathroom Cleaner expands into hard-to-reach places and it kills 99.9% of viruses and bacteria.  It’s perfect for my shower because it’s formulated for cleaning soap scum and hard water stains and I have plenty of that mess in my bathroom!   I swear I must pour half of the bottle of conditioner onto the shower floor because that’s where the soap scum always seems to end up.  I also love how it left a fresh scent behind.  It’s actually available in 2 scents – Fresh and Lemon.     I just love the foaming action and how it expands into those little nooks and crannies that I can’t get!

I don’t know why I’m so surprised. I’ve been a fan of Scrubbing Bubbles® before when I used it to clean my toilet seat and bathtub walls.  I love how easy it is to use and how fast it works. It saves me so much time.

How To Get Your $h!t Together in 2015

We say it EVERY YEAR, that we are going to get our crap together and be better, healthier, stronger, and happier in the new year.   But of course it's easier said than done.  So I put together a list of things that everyone can choose to work on to make not only a better world around you, but a better person inside and out.

//Be More Active
[]Whether you start running a mile each day or you just take 10 flights of stairs every morning and evening at work, start being more active than you already are. 
[]Go out and shop for some workout clothing so you look forward to everything more. 
[]Start scheduling your days and weeks out so that you write down what you want to do and when.  
[] Use a fitness journal to track all of your activities. It helps hold you accountable and it makes you feel so accomplished! You can buy an actual fitness journal at the store, or just start keeping a log in a notebook you already own. Write down what you did, when, for how long, and how it made you feel before during and after. 
[] Go out and get the equipment you need to stay active like a bike, weights, or rubberbands.  You can't be more active if you don't have the supplies you need.  I find that using a jumprope makes me enjoy fitness more so I made sure to go buy one from the store. 

//Be Healthier
[]Start logging what you eat in a food journal.  Write down what you ate, how much, when you ate it, and how you felt that day.  This also helps you notice patterns in your life. 
[] Stop buying preserved foods that are loaded with icky things.  Stay away from boxed and frozen foods and either buy fresh or learn to cook so you can eat things in the purest form.
[]Take multivitamins. Seriously. 
[] Stop washing your hair everyday and take more vitamins to help it grow. Also, stop using heat on it all the time. Even I do it, and I blogged about how I run daily and keep a minimum hairwash routine
[]Work on cutting back on any unhealthy habit like smoking or drinking excessively.

//Be Financially Healthy
[] Get on a Budget. Remember, budgets aren't for broke people, they are for smart people that manage their money and control where every dollar goes. 
[] Use a cash envelope system. You are much more likely to spend impulsively when you use cash versus a debit card.  Also, you can make mini savings funds for different things like a car envelope where you put $20 in the envelope each paycheck.  It all adds up overtime. 
[] Track your spending so you know where everything goes and you can quickly see what can be cut back. 
[] Embrace the idea that less is more and you don't need tons of "stuff" to make you happy. Try embracing events rather than items.  A concert will leave great memories behind, for example. 

//Start Living[]Create a Bucket List.  I have a 30 Before 30 List.  It doesn't have to be crazy or anything but just things you'd like to get done in life, like take a vacation somewhere, learn to meditate, spend more time with friends, etc. 

[] Learn to meditate.  You don't have to do anything formal, just learn to sit and clear your mind.  You know when you catch yourself staring at something and zoning out?  Well, start doing that more often, intentionally.   Lay on your bed in silence and just stare at the ceiling and try to keep your mind calm.  When a thought comes through imagine yourself just waving it away. 
[] Practice Random Acts of Kindness. Not only are these good karma, but it makes the world a better place.  Pay for the person's coffee behind you in line, leave a 100% tip on your next bill, shovel someones driveway that you know struggles to do it on their own. Don't be afraid to share your random acts of kindness on social media either, it often helps motivate others to do the same!
[] Be more positive and less critical.  Look at the good in each situation.  So what, your alarm didn't go off but hey you got an extra hour of sleep.  
[] Work on keeping an open mind and let things go. Instead of getting all worked up in a traffic jam, realize that it is completely beyond your control, so just take advantage of the extra time to phone a friend and chat, or jam out to a song on the radio. 

//Get Organized
[] Make a list of different rooms to purge and dedicate a day or evening to each one (bedroom, bathroom, Kitchen).
[] Make 3 piles every time you purge - Keep, pitch, donate.
[] Get an agenda and write down all of the daily tasks you need to do as well as planning for down time and fitness.
[] Embrace minimalism when you purge books, DVDs, CDs, and clothing. Not only will your home look better with clearer spaces but you won't feel so overwhelmed with all that stuff. 
[] Keep things in clear plastic bins with labels on them.  This way, you can see where things are and what they are.  It's also easier to store plastic bins, even tiny ones, when you are putting them in a closet.  
[] Arrange your closet in an organized fashion.  Use small thing velvet hangers and enforce the One in One out rule.  You can only put a new item in if you are willing to get rid of something old.

My Must Have Shoe

When it comes to footwear, I like something that's easy to get on and off and doesn't feel like I'm walking around with a ton of bricks attached to my feet. I like to be able to get where I'm going and run my errands as quickly as possible so, being the quick mover that I am, I need a shoe that can keep up with that. 4 Ideas For Creating A Cosy Living Room

For many of us, the living room is the heart of the home. It is the place that we sit and relax, entertain guests and spend quality time with our loved ones. So, it makes sense that a living room should be comfortable, cosy and stylish.

From furniture and colours, to patterns and pictures, what design elements are needed to create a comfortable and welcoming space?

You may not realise it, but the colour of the walls can massively affect the feel of a room. Whilst eggshell blue, grey and cream are popular living room wall colours because of their chic look, they aren’t exactly cosy.

If you want to create a warm and welcoming look, paint your walls with warm tones instead. Sunny yellow, warm reds and tangerine shades are excellent colours for creating a cosy looking living room. If you aren’t a massive fan of bright colours, why not create an accent wall? Paint every wall but one cream or off-white and then paint your one accent wall in a warm colour of your choice.

Invest in comfortable couches

Whilst you may love the look of chic, ultra-modern furniture designs, they don’t look cosy and comfortable. Instead, this type of design looks stiff – funny shaped seats, and awkward angled sofas are not exactly cosy looking. If you want to create a cosy living room, it is vital that you opt for comfortable looking seating.

Choose seating that looks great, is comfortable and super cosy. Ideally, you want a sofa that is comfortable for your guests to sit on for hours. A leather corner sofa is one of the best options for creating a cosy looking living room – they are big enough to fit everyone one, comfy and easy to clean. Plus, they don’t have to cost too much.

For some added comfort, add some cute throw pillows to your sofa – these will make your guests feel right at home.

Think about your lighting

Overhead lights can often be too bright and harsh. For a cosier look, consider investing in a light dimmer switch. Being able to tone down your lights to a soft glow will make your living room look and feel cosier.

If dimmer lights aren’t an option, you could use lamps to give your living room a warm feel. When it starts to get dark, switch your lamps on instead of the main light for a more relaxed and welcoming effect.

Add accessories

Placing a few simple accessories around the room can completely change the feel of it.

Hang pictures on the walls, place photos on the tables and place a vase of flowers on your coffee table. You could also add some simple throw cushions to chairs around the room, place a rug on the floor and perhaps a faux fur throw across the back of the sofa.

These are the kind of things that will make your home feel warmer and more welcoming.

5 Ways to Stay Post-Holiday Happy

This time of year is so joyful.  Everywhere you go people, places, and things are so festive. But what happens after it comes to complete and sudden halt the day after Christmas? The blues start creeping up and you go through post-holiday blah!   So here are some ways to keep yourself happy post-holiday.

[1] Be Productive
Now's a good time to start making a list of stuff that you need to get done. Whether it's nagging tasks that you've put off for weeks (purging your closet, washing the floors,etc.) or it's the normal stuff like packing the decorations away, make a list of things to do so that you keep busy.  This is also a great time to do things that get your house and life in order for the new year.

[2] Start Resolutions Early
So you want to work out more? Well start immediately after Christmas so you not only get a head start but you also keep yourself occupied.

[3] Pamper Yourself
Take the week after Christmas to enjoy some good old ME time.  Use the spa gift card you got as a gift, or schedule a mani/pedi and a massage.  The rest of the world seems to slow down and take off work around this time so it's not like you're missing much!

[4] Prepare for Winter
If you haven't already, get out your winter wardrobe and put your warm weather clothing into storage.  Make sure your home and care are prepared for the weather by doing little things like cleaning vents, checking filters, etc.  

[5] Keep Celebrating
Instead of letting yourself feel blue, celebrate all great things in your life like friends and family. Make a list of all the people you want to spend time with and spend the next few weeks arranging a date with each of them!

5// Clean Kitchen
Thanks to the Loving Pets Bella Spill Proof Dog Mat I no longer trip over bowls in the kitchen.  They are kept on the mat and if there's a spill it's no longer a big deal.  The raised edges help contain the spill and it even comes with non-skid feet!
