Farmer's markets have been around for a long time but it seems they're becoming even more popular lately and many townships have their own farmer's markets on a weekly basis in the fair weather months. That being said, there are several benefits to shopping at your local farmer's market whenever possible.
You can meet people
Not only can you meat vendors and artisans in your community but you can also make new friends with other shoppers. It's nice to get out and about and see other people from your community. Even though I love being a hermit, socialization is good for all human beings.
Networking
If you are a business owner or looking for a specific business yourself, this is the ideal chance to network. Bring business cards along just in case.
Freshness
Everything is so much more fresh at a farmer's market than it is at the store. You don't have to rush to eat things because they haven't been sitting on shelves for several days after making a long cross country road trip in a shipping truck. Fresh produce tastes so much better I promise!
Save money
Now sometimes things can seem pricey at a farmer's market but you're getting better quality goods than anywhere else so you are still getting more value for your money spent. But also, buying produce is often much cheaper at a farmer's market than anywhere else. I've noticed at my local markets the farm fresh eggs are much cheaper and they taste so much better.
Support local
When you buy things from local markets you are supporting the farms and businesses in your area. It's good for your local economy to keep those types of businesses going. It's always a very rewarding feeling to know you're doing that and it's one of the best parts of leaving the market after a nice long shopping session.
Do you visit your local farmer's markets?
