Working from home can be a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it offers you flexibility and comfort as well as convenience because you will not be commuting. However, it can come with its own set of challenges such as distractions, lack of structure and a difficulty in being productive.
Without a solid routine and a few well timed strategies, it is easy to fall into the trap of burnout and procrastination. However, if you use the right strategies, you're going to improve your focus and productivity in a big way.
Establish a Structured Routine
One of the best ways to improve productivity is to establish a consistent routine for yourself. You should start your day at the same time as if you were going into an office. Try to have a morning routine that includes breakfast, setting goals and even getting dressed.
This will create a sense of structure and readiness for your day. Try to segment your day into punctuated short breaks and focus on working. To prevent yourself from feeling burnt out. When you start having a routine it becomes easier for you to enter work more when you need to.
This will improve your productivity and little less wasted time and scattered attention.
Take Regular Breaks
Working non-stop is not going to make you more productive. In fact, it can do the opposite. Make sure that you are taking regular steps to maintain your focus or prevent mental fatigue.
Try to work in short bursts as this can help you focus during the day. While on your break it is a good idea to engage in activities that bring you relaxation and allow your brain to recharge. Consider stretching, walking or even playing a game of solitaire.
Walking gives you a chance to soak in nature and relax your mind. Stretching gets you focused on removing areas of tension in your body. Playing a short game of solitaire takes your mind off your work for a few minutes and refreshes your cognitive function in a big way.
Create a Dedicated Workspace
Having a specific area for work is critical to maintaining your focus. You need to set up a space in your home that you work solely from. It could be a desk in the corner, a spare room or even a small table. All of this is going to help to create a mental association between the space and productive activities which can help you become more focused and achieve your goals.
The space that you use should be comfortable and free of distractions. You want to make sure that you're avoiding loud noises and interruptions. Try to stay away from the couch and the bed as these places are typically associated with relaxation and they're not good for you if you want to focus on your work.
These three simple practices can help you become more productive during your work day, so you can get more done. Once you start seeing your accomplishments you'll be glad you made the changes that you did.
