Whether you choose to have cable or not, there are plenty of streaming services out there that exist that can either replace or supplement what you watch when it comes to shows and movies. However, I notice many people say they won't waste money on cable yet they will be subscribed to enough streaming services that they pay the same amount each month for those than they would for cable. Well, I have a little life hack that I use to save money on streaming services and today I'm sharing it with you.
I do have regular cable because we watch A LOT of shows and although we don't really have any premium channels, we're happy with our current options. I negotiate a good price every 2 years by utilizing my cable company's online chat. But I do love me a good series or movie that's exclusively available on one of the many streaming services out there. But the thing is I don't want to pay money every month to watch them and then run out of things to watch as I wait for better stuff to come along. So instead, I have a little note in my iphone where I list streaming services like Netflix, Prime, Peacock, HBO, Paramount, Hulu, etc. Whenever I see a movie or show mentioned somewhere, I quickly go look to see what it's available on. I will add the name to the note under the specific streaming service. When I have enough things listed under a service, I will go subscribe for one month and one month only. I cancel it within a day but the subscription is still good through the end of that 30 day period. I then watch as many things as I can from my list. When I've watched those I will go look for other things to watch on that service. Over a period of 4 weeks I get my fix and then I wait till 6 months or 1 year goes by to do it again.
So one month I may do HBO, the next Hulu, and the next Netflix. It's like getting all those services every year for the price of just one service each month, because that's all I'm really paying for.
The only thing you have to remember to do is to cancel your subscription before the month is up. If that's something you think you'll forget - cancel it right away. Your subscription is still valid through the end of that period.
Why do I bother doing this? Because I have a lot of guilt when I spend money on something every month that I don't even utilize. This MAKES me utilize it and saves me money in the long run. There are some months I don't watch any streaming services and that's fine with me because I'm not paying for them during that month.
Have you ever tried this or will you try this?
