A Simple Guide to Holiday Prep

Monday, November 25, 2024

December is NEXT WEEK and for the next month time will fly and can be filled with SO MUCH that it can wear you out and leave you frazzled. Since the holidays are meant to be enjoyed I decided I'd share a little checklist to prepare for the holidays so it can be more enjoyable and you can focus on the important things.

Check Over Your Decor
I always do a quick review of my decoration before the holidays since this is when I can take care of things like buying replacement bulbs for tree and outdoor lights, replace anything broken, and purge what I no longer wish to use. By going through your decor NOW to handle those small tasks, it'll make the holiday season a breeze and you won't be rushing around at the last minute. Nothing is worse than having to run to the store and fight holiday traffic because you didn't bother taking care of this last year when you noticed the issue as you packed the decor away.

Start a List and Shop EARLY
I always have my holiday gift list started no later than November. If I can buy something right away, I do.  This way I get most of my shopping done and can just enjoy the holiday season. The other important part of this is making sure you have a holiday budget in place.  I save for the holidays and any other gift buying occasions all year round so I am never scrambling by the time Christmas rolls around.

Schedule Things Ahead of Time
If you want to plan gatherings or parties make sure you start right away.  Create a bucket list of things to do in your town so you can purchase tickets early.   Call family to decide who is hosting which holidays.  This makes everything go smoother so you aren't doing things last minute. Plus, scheduling holiday fun gives you something to look forward to rather than scrambling to decide where to go then waiting in line since you didn't pre-purchase tickets.

Meal Plan the Holidays
If you want to switch up your recipes this year, start doing the research now. Look up new recipes and have a practice run if you need to. You can also work on creating your own recipe. I just use the same old recipes each year because we all enjoy them.

Schedule Time Off
Get your time off requests in early if you know which days you'll need off. This ensures no one can deny them and also that your coworkers can plan coverage.

I am a holiday pro these days so I really hope these tips help you!
