Simplify Your Beauty Routine

Tuesday, March 18, 2025

One of the aspects of our life we tend to forget about simplifying is our beauty routine. This includes everything from the products to use to your regular routine. Simplifying my beauty routine has given me back my energy and time (and money) that I used to waste on it.
Choose What to Use
Get rid of products you don't use especially if you have multiple brands of a certain type of product.  Stick with 1 or 2 brands that you can stay loyal to.  Getting into this habit will force you to be wise when shopping because you will realize you don't need to buy every single new product you find. Stick with what you know and love.  This will also free up space where you store your beauty products and make it so much easier to find what you want in the moment.

I use one shampoo, one conditioner, one body wash, and one shaving cream.  I use the same brand of specific makeup for each type like eyeliner and mascara.  When I think I'm running low I know exactly what to buy.  When we buy too much of something it becomes wasteful all around.  If you can't possibly use 5 different types of black eyeliner before the expiration date, you shouldn't even have that many.

Reduce What to Use
It's not always necessary to use every single product out there.  I have a weekly cleanser I use for my face that gives me a scrubbing dermabrasion effect and then I have my regularly facial wash for daily use.  I don't need several containers of serums or masks for my face.

Look at your current routine with washing your face, showering your body and hair, and makeup and stick with the core products. I don't wear fake eyelashes anymore so I don't keep those in my vanity. Instead, I focus on a base layer, a powder, eyeliner, eye shadow, and mascara.  That means every time I need to my makeup it's a simple process because I can pull out those 5 products.

Same goes for my daily skincare routine.  I use a cleaner, a moisturizer, occasionally a scrub, and I have some under eye masks because they're fun! I recently added a dark spot cream that I use but that's still a minimal amount of products and it also means it only takes me a few minutes to wash my face each evening.  This also makes it easier to keep that as a daily habit because it's easy to fit in.

Create a Routine
Make sure you incorporate a beauty routine in everyday life.  If you only wear makeup on special occasions that makes it even easier. I stopped wearing makeup during the pandemic and I like it better this way.  I might throw some concealer on when I have to go into the office in person once a month but I keep makeup only for special times.  For me, getting ready just involves picking out an outfit.

I have a morning routine and an evening routine with skincare and my hair and it's such a part of my daily life I do it mindlessly and it doesn't feel like a chore.  But when I'm doing it I can actually enjoy it and make the most of it.  This is a benefit of simplifying.  You get your time and energy back so you aren't wasting it and when you are using it, you can make sure you make the most of it.
