Everything is digital these days and while it's still nice to use paper or physical versions for some things in life, digital makes everything so much easier. Streamlining your life by switching over to digital is a great idea and can save you in many ways.
First let's look at the benefits of switching over to digital:
- Save time by not having to run around physically and drive to pay bills, borrow books, and other things you can streamline. Time is a very valuable asset so don't ever waste it.
- Save money by not having to spend as much. Digital items are generally cheaper than physical ones.
- Save space by not having physical items taking up valuable space in your home.
So what specific things should you switch to digital?
Books
I am an avid reader so I fully understand how fun it is to read but aside from borrowing hard copy book from a local library, reading digitally can save space, time, and money. Libraries have digital books that you can borrow with a reading device like your phone or a Kindle and this has been a game changer for me. I don't need to worry about due dates as much because there's no great effort to physically drive to the library to return them. And when I have them in my possession, they're digital so they aren't taking up space and I can't lose or damage them.
Music
Everything is built for digital music anymore it seems so why not embrace it? Convert CDs to MP3s and connect your phone to your car so you can play your music that way. Purchasing digital songs is much more affordable than buying a physical CD. Another cool thing is that you can stream music and set it up so it plays the stuff you like. I use Pandora for everything so I no longer have a need to actually purchase music.
Magazines
I absolutely love reading magazines but even I can admit that it's a little wasteful. I spend money on subscriptions and then the physical magazines take up space in my home and most people throw them out after reading. I pass them on to others and sometimes cut things out for crafts but for the most part, I don't NEED physical magazines anymore. I recently learned the one digital library I'm a member of in my state has a magazine rack so I cancelled all my subscriptions of physical magazines and I read them digitally on the library app whenever new issues come out.
Paying for Goods and Services
A lot of places (even at farmers markets) take digital payments now. If they don't have signage saying so, ask them. Even if there's a small fee it's always worth it for me. I don't have to worry about running to the ATM for cash in most cases too so it's saving me time and energy.
Bills
If you are still mailing checks for bills and the bill you're paying can be paid a different way, make the change. Set up auto pay too so you don't have to remember what day to make your payment. It's nice to have a digital trail of what you paid and when so don't stress too much about not being able to record the check number.
Have you made the switch to digital yet?
