Birthdays in Your Late 30s

Birthdays are quite interesting as you age. I'll be 38 next week so they look very different than they used to.  Speaking of birthdays...my blog is 14 years old this week! Hooray!

Anyways... just thought I'd talk a bit about how I spend my birthdays as someone in their late 30s.

I usually take off work around my birthday so I have a long weekend. This is so that I can just do whatever I want and not worry about work getting in the way.

My husband's birthday is the 10th and mine's the 13th so we usually do something together.  We used to go out for all you can eat crab legs at a place 45 minutes away but it's gotten so expensive to do that, we bought our own crab pot and we buy crab legs on sale and make them at home. We lay a tablecloth on the dining room table and feast away. It's still cheaper than going anywhere and it's delicious!

I used to like going out or gathering with others but aside from my parents stopping by, I really don't do that. I just kind of treat birthdays like another day.  But I do make sure I celebrate myself. I might treat myself to a a special dessert around my birthday (and yes I usually buy cake for myself and share it with my family) or I will buy a special houseplant I've had my eyes on. Sometimes I get a pedicure or a massage around my birthday.

I take time to live slowly during my birthday and just enjoy life since after all, isn't that what a birthday is... celebrating another year on this planet?

Often I gather with my neighbors and float around in their pool.  Last year they were away but told me I could use it so it was quite the relaxing time just floating around in the sunshine in total silence.

When it comes to gifts, me and my husband are very practical so we get each other whatever we need.  Seriously I've asked for cleaning supplies before!

I am proud of all I've accomplished not just in the last year but in the last 37 years so I kind of just use my birthday to enjoy the day and be proud of myself for still being here. After all, life can be tough and hey I've made it this far!

How do you celebrate birthdays nowadays?
