Yes, I said it...I love running. Sometimes when I think I dread it, I quickly realize that it's just the actual getting started and getting out the door that I dread. Because once I am running I can already feel the benefits. Here are 5 reasons I love running.
1. It boosts my mental health
Whether it's the feeling of anxiety and overwhelm for a busy day or week coming up, stress from things going on in my life and around it, or just a feeling of being bummed randomly, I feel 10000% better after I run. And that feeling lasts all day. Exercise is obviously good for your mental health but with running, the rush of endorphins I get gives me a real nice runner's high. I feel proud and accomplished afterwards.
2. It's great cardio
Before I started running, I got so easily winded if I dashed down the stairs or rushed to do something. No more does that happen thanks to my cardio fitness from running. Even if I'm not going super fast, I'm still giving myself a cardio workout and it means I don't get winded anymore doing other tasks. Even yardwork used to leave me out of breath before I began running.
3. It's my ME time to meditate and reflect
Yes, meditation doesn't always have to be a mind with no thoughts. In fact, when I run, my mind just focuses on running but at times random things pop up into my head and my brain goes over them before moving on to the next thing. Sometimes I even come up with really good blog posts ideas while on a run. Also, when I run I can be all alone with just myself and my music as I run through my outdoor route. Since I run early in the morning there's almost no people around or cars. I actually see a lot of cool wildlife out when I run since they're also enjoying the time before all the humans come out and disturb them.
4. It makes me feel confident
Some people may think I'm crazy for running in the dark (I wear safety lights of course) but I actually feel quite confident because I'm not afraid of the dark or what could lurk in it. I'm doing something that most people don't find very desirable. When I struggle with doubting myself with other things in life sometimes I just remind myself that if I can run in the dark I can do anything, duh!
5. My skin looks great
Seriously, not only do I have a nice flush to my skin after my run but it lasts a day or two afterwards (until my next run) and I love it! Getting the blood flowing makes me look more glowy and youthful. I have less issues with dry skin or breakouts when I'm actively running on a regular basis.
