No one will be shocked to find out that moving home is one of the top five most stressful activities you can do in your life. It is up there with welcoming your first child, death, and divorce.

It's never easy, and it's never fun; however, that doesn't necessarily mean it needs to be complicated. Sure, a lot of things can go wrong during a house move. This is because there are many different aspects to moving home, as well as many different details and moving parts that need to fit together seamlessly to facilitate an easy house move.

However, with so many different variables, the chances of things not going according to plan increase drastically.

If you're looking to facilitate the smoothest house move ever, these tips are exactly what you need.

Clear Out

First things first, you need to start clearing out every single thing you do not want to take with you.

This process of decluttering will not only lighten your load but also give you a sense of control over your belongings. A fresh home is a fresh start, and this is the perfect opportunity to go through every single thing you own and determine if you actually want it, if you will actually use it, and if it's really worth the effort of packing it up and unpacking it just simply be put away in a box or a drawer again.

Go through everything you own, drawer by drawer, room by room. If you don't need it and want to take it, pack it up in a box, ready to be moved. If you don't want it, you need to look at either donating it, selling it, or sending it to the trash. Take action on this as quickly as possible so you don't have items hanging around, making life harder than it needs to be.

Make a List

You are Santa Claus. Make that list, check it twice, and take it off one by one. This process of making a list and ticking off tasks as you complete them will give you a sense of accomplishment and control.

Your move needs to be organized and methodical, and it needs to cover every single aspect of moving home. From packing up rooms to changing addresses to checking your utilities, ensuring you have time off, child care, etc., make a list of every small detail that you need to consider when you move home, get it on the list, and give it a deadline. Because if you don't give it a deadline, chances are you will leave everything to be done all at once at the last minute, and this is where things go wrong.

Storage Units

A storage unit can be your best friend when it comes to moving home. It offers a convenient solution to the overwhelming task of packing and moving. As you are packing up boxes and belongings, it can be a really good idea to hire a climate controlled storage unit to store everything that is packed and ready to go. This can be clothes, toys, it can be kitchen appliances, furniture, etc., but as you are going through the process of packing everything away and getting it ready to move, take them to a storage unit until your moving date so everything all organized and ready to go in one place and you can simply head to the storage unit pick it all up and take it to your new property.

Book Early

For a smooth house move, you need to book everything early. If you're using moving services or suppliers or hiring other professionals such as cleaners, painters, decorators, contractors, etc., you need to book them all early. This not only ensures you get the services you need when you need them, but it also often comes with lower costs. Plus, having these services in place early gives you peace of mind and allows you to focus on other aspects of the move.
