Decluttering the Linen Closet

Linen closets are my favorite thing to declutter because it is SO functional after I'm done.  The best part is that if you keep it functional and only keep what you will use in it, it's a beautiful storage space moving forward and it's so easy to find what you need.  When you declutter a linen closet you normally already have areas set up within it that you can use as categories so below are common categories and the items you should declutter from them.

Towels
-Excess towels (just keep a second set for each person in your household)
-Hand towels (keep one active towel for each bathroom or space and then one extra for each space)
-Washcloths (just keep a specific number like 10

Bed Linens
-Top sheets (if you don't use these STOP KEEPING THEM!)
-Pillow cases (keep only a spare set per room
-Fitted sheets (keep 1 spare set per bed)
-Throw pillows (only keep 2 back up billows and once you use those don't get more until you actually need to replace your throw pillows)
-Extra blankets (only keep 3-4)

For other things you keep in a linen closet like back stock items - only keep 1 of each item. Keep it all in a labeled bin that says back stock on it.

Lesser used items like a humidifier for when you or a household member are sick can be stored here but don't store an excessive amount.

Items that don't need stored here should go to a proper home. If you have a cleaning closet separate from your linen closet - move the cleaning supplies there.  And if you use your linen closet for cleaning supplies then make sure you have 1 of each type of cleaner you need like a window cleaner, floor cleaner, all purpose cleaner, etc.

Make sure you store things in bins and baskets where you can easily see what you have.  Solid storage bins aren't ideal for a linen closet which is usually dark already, mainly because if you don't know you have something you might end up buying more of it.

When you're done you should have an aesthetically pleasing linen closet ready for you to utilize.
