Things You Can Declutter in Your Bedroom

The bedroom is a space to rest and relax.  It shouldn't add stress to you or be a burden.  It should be a clean and tidy space that helps get you in the mood to rest and unwind.  For those reasons - it's always a good idea to declutter your bedroom and keep it that way.  Here's a list of things you can declutter from the bedroom.  Nightstands
The nightstand is a necessary evil. We need it to keep things close by or display things we love to see on a daily basis but these spaces can get very cluttered without boundaries.  First, start with the tops of the nightstands and get rid of piles of papers, mail, trash, books you already finished, and anything else that isn't functional or promoting rest.  Put these things in the rooms they belong in or get rid of them.  Using a nightstand to display knick knacks is fine but consider how difficult it is to dust when you have to remove all the decorative items.  A book, your glasses, a lamp, and a phone charger are all you really need next to your bed.

It's fine to have a water bottle but plates and food should not be in the bedroom nor should medications. Put them in the bathroom or kitchen.

Clothing
Notice I didn't say closets.... no this is clothing. Any clothing not in a dresser or hanging in a closet should not be displayed or laying anywhere else in your bedroom.  Even shoes should be in the appropriate place in the closet.

Decor
Go through all your tabletop decor and statues and any wall decor.  If it makes the space look or feel cluttered, it needs a new home or to be gotten rid of all together. Keep your decor to a minimum when possible.  If you embrace the boho maximalist look that's fine of course but make sure you're only displaying the best of the best. Excessive decor items make it difficult to clean and dust regularly plus they can take up valuable real estate on your nightstand.

Papers
If you piles of paper stashed in a closet or dresser drawer, remove them now and either discard or put in a more appropriate storage space like your office.  You shouldn't be dealing with thinking items like paper clutter when you're in your bedroom.

Electronics
Obviously some people have a TV in their bedroom and that's fine but get rid of any electronics you don't regularly use or need in there like old remotes, DVDs you watched once before bed, and tech gadgets.

Bedding
Obviously, extra bedding sheets should be kept in a linen closet but sometimes we pile excessive throw pillows on our bed.  Instead, consider getting rid of some (the most worn out or ones you just don't like anymore) and store ones in good shape under the bed in a plastic storage bag or shallow lidded bin.  What fun is a relaxing bedroom if you have to take off 15 throw pillows before you go to bed and put them all back on after making the bed in the morning.  Speaking of making the bed - ALWAYS make your bed in the morning. It sets the tone for your day and it's nice to get into bed that night with a crisply made bed.

Furniture
Chairs or nightstands you don't use or need should be removed from your bedroom.   You want open space just like in a nice hotel room.

Remember - keep your bedroom full of things that help you embrace sleep and relaxation.  You don't need distractions to stress you out and this room shouldn't be used for things other than relaxing and sleeping.
