Why Flooring is an Important Part of Home Improvement

When it comes to your home and the home improvements you make, one of the most important ones is the floor.  Whether it's in your kitchen or the living room and whether it's carpet or tile, flooring is so important.  Your floors are what provide you the ground to walk on inside your house on a daily and almost constant basis.  So why should you bother with the floor? Well, let's take a closer look.

When we moved into our home, the hardwood flooring was a major selling point.  The kicker was that the kitchen has cheap linoleum and the dining room had this dark ugly low grade (office style) carpet.  We eventually replaced it ourselves but it has made a major upgrade in our home and we are so glad we did it.

The floor is the first thing a person notices when they step in your home.  Why? Because they have to watch where they step of course!  Also, if you have flooring that's hard to keep cleaning it's going to require constant maintenance from you. Our kitchen flooring always showed dirt and footsteps coming in from outside.  I was constantly washing it.  Our hardwood floors on the other hand were much lower maintenance, only requiring a wash every few weeks.

If you have pets or kids, you need to determine the best flooring for you. While carpet is nice and soft, it can hold dirt, stains, and require lots of cleaning.  Hardwood floors are great for all living situations because you can add some softness with an area rug.

You also want something that can last a long time.  Many people like to choose flooring they can snap and lock in place that looks like real wood or tile but isn't so it's more affordable.  We plan to be in our house forever so it was worth the price for us but some people just need a quick fix for a few years before they plan to move to a new home.

Another thing to consider with the type of flooring you choose for your home is the climate where you live.  If you live in a place where temperatures are cooler the majority of the year, tile can be cold.  Some people want carpet just to make their home more cozy.  Likewise, some people that live in a rural area and get messy on their farm or in the woods near their property like hardwood floors so they don't track stuff into their home as easily as they would with carpet.

If you want to upgrade your floors, search for companies in your area.   R&S flooring Nashville is a company that offers free estimates and has many options to choose from.  Some people choose flooring companies while others choose to do everything themselves.

At the end of the day the choice of flooring in your home is your personal choice.  Get cost estimates, get measurements, and write down pros and cons of each type you consider.
