A lot of times when I'm stressed out I look for things to do in and around my house. Since it's warm out, I like to do that outside. I don't always want to spend a ton of money or have to go places so starting in my own backyard works great for me. Here are 7 stress-relieving activities you can do in your own backyard.
Yard Games
Yard Games
Cornhole is one of my favorite backyard games to play. And the best part is, I can simply practice with myself if no one is around. You can also do croquet or horseshoes. There are tons of new fun yard games in stores right now so find something you think you'll like, invite some friends or neighbors over, or just practice with yourself.
Planting Flowers/Veggies/Herbs
This is a great way to decorate and style your outdoor living spaces but is also very therapeutic because you have to care for and nurture plants. Pick some of your favorite colors and find flowers that go with the color scheme. If you're tired of pulling weeds in your garden beds, consider getting ground cover plants or even herbs like thyme and oregano. You can have beautiful ground cover AND go get fresh clippings to season your meals.
Nature Crafts
I love nature crafts. Sometimes I find a pretty smooth rock and paint it and place it on my patio. Other times I find pretty flowers and pick myself a bouquet. You can make little nature mandalas with leaves and flowers, too. I also love getting things like pinecones that I can dip in paint and put in a dish as a centerpiece on my dining table.
A Small Pool
If you're looking for an affordable way to beat the heat, a small inflatable pool or small plastic pool is perfect. You can place it in your grass or on your patio. Sit in it and enjoy a glass of wine and a snack or read a good book.
Host a Small Gathering
Invite some friends or neighbors over and have everyone bring a drink and a dish. You can provide the plates and utensils and the venue. Play cards, yard games, or just sit around a fire pit and talk.
Exercise/Meditate
Exercise can be way more fun when you have nice scenery. Sometimes I lift weights on my back porch. I get distracted by the scenery and I don't dwell on the fact that I want to get it over with. Sit in the grass and meditate. Pick up sticks and pull weeds for some outdoor exercise that ALSO makes your yard look nice.
Picnic
Now of course a picnic is like a cookout except you're actually going to pack some things up and find a spot in your backyard to put a blanket down so you can ACTUALLY picnic. Bring a book or binge your favorite show on your phone or tablet. Lay out and enjoy some sunshine and snacks and even a glass of wine while you enjoy your own yard.
