As someone who isn't a fan of hot and humid weather, I normally don't run in the Summer. But this year I decided I was going to go for it. Normally, I take off all Summer and then feel terrible when I have to ease back into it in the Fall. So I figured I would just do my best and see if I could handle it and I have to say I'm impressed and proud of myself. I ran all Summer long even during heatwaves.

Yes, I said it...I love running. Sometimes when I think I dread it, I quickly realize that it's just the actual getting started and getting out the door that I dread. Because once I am running I can already feel the benefits. Here are 5 reasons I love running.

As someone who enjoys running outdoors, I also really enjoy doing so in the cold weather months. This is for a number of reasons which I will outline below but wanted to make this post simply for the fact that I know there are other people out there that could benefit from continuing their outdoor running even in the low temps.

As a runner, my personal favorite season is Winter. I enjoy running in the cold because it's easier for me to breathe, I can actually run faster, and I barely sweat like I do during Summer runs. This makes it easier for me to wash my hair less and helps me feel more productive during the months we are generally stuck inside. That being said, I have a few times for my fellow runners considering running this Winter. It's definitely different than other times of the year so hopefully these tips help you boost your running game.

If you've been following me on my social media over the last 6 months, you'll know that I've been running. And I figured it was about time for me to make a blog post about it for others that are thinking of getting into running whether it's just to challenge yourself or to help exercise more and live a healthier life. So if you want to start running...keep reading!

Moving into our house last year took up a lot of time. It wasn't just the moving itself, it was the settling in and getting things done around the house for the first several months. Then Winter came and I lost all motivation to run.
We are really lucky to have a gym room in our basement and I realized something that would help me for years to come. If I start running now and continue till next winter, I can workout inside on the days it's too cold and on any rainy days. This way I will be more likely to keep up with my routine.
The way it goes now is that I will start running or working out for an entire week and then bad weather will happen and I totally stop. It's been really frustrating!
So I also did a thing...I bought a NordicTrack Elliptical and once it's delivered and set up I'm going to start using it on the days I can't run or workout outside. I will be sure to let you know what I think of it.
Do you run? Have you struggled with keeping on a running routine?

Running and working out can sometimes get a bit boring so to keep it fun I like to keep a bright and colorful wardrobe. It not only keeps me motivated but also when I look good I feel even better! Especially when it comes to running, I like to keep what I wear colorful and full of fun patterns and prints. Not only does it make me stand out in a competitive race but I love glancing at my reflection in car mirrors as I dash by!
Seriously, sometimes I even see other runners and I get real envious of their outfit and I really want to know where they got it from. You can even tell when some of them have a brand new outfit on because they run like it!
And one winner will get the Geo Grid Shorts (Left in 2nd pic) and the Tie Dye Shorts (Left in 1st pic) ! Good luck!

Seriously, sometimes I even see other runners and I get real envious of their outfit and I really want to know where they got it from. You can even tell when some of them have a brand new outfit on because they run like it!
These are the BOA Women's Printed 1" Elite Split Running Shorts. They give you a great range of motion when you're running. Nothing is more annoying than when you feel restricted. They have a nice back panel that keeps you covered and the low rise fit is perfect. So whether you are running in races or just for fun, you can utilize the internal key pocket or just enjoy the 100% microfiber polyester shell fabric.
These patterns and prints are so fun and beautiful! I love the vibrant colors and the material is so lightweight and comfortable. I am super picky with shorts because I have had ones that were too loose and too tight but this is perfect and right in between!

Okay, I'm gonna let you in on a secret. I have 2 necessities that help me do my best on every run, whether it's a 5k or just my daily jog.
Amazing Headphones
I need music to run. That's not my secret weapon though. My secret weapon is the most comfortable and enjoyable way I've found to listen to that music! Yurbuds Inspire for Women are designed for the female athlete. Women have smaller ears so the TwistLock technology and FlexSoft comfort fit guarantee these to be pain-free and stay in your ear!
They are sweat and water-resistant which comes in handy on rainy days and the sound quality is AMAZING! I seriously forget I'm even wearing earbuds on my runs. Plus they have a sleek sexy design and come in fun feminine colors!
Compression Socks
I love my Women's Performance Compression Calf Socks from Tommie Copper. Compression socks are great because the improve circulation a nd they enhance muscle and joint performance. They also increase oxygen to your muscles and it shortens the muscle and joint recovery time. With all the running I do, I need all the help I can get. They have a natural anti-odor technology and Cool Copper moisture wicking technology to keep my foot cool and dry. It's amazing how much better I am at my runs when I wear these. They are so comfortable and so stylish. Plus, when I'm in a race, people know what to look for when I say I have bright coral socks! :)
What are your secret weapons for workouts?

I am so proud of myself for becoming a runner. I never even knew I had it in me. However, it's a very challenging activity especially when I get injured. Over the summer, right before my first ever 5K, I started to get some Achilles Tendonitis. I seriously wanted to cry. Somehow I still ran an amazing time at the 5K but I was so anxious for weeks and weeks that I wouldn't be able to run like normal.
Luckily, I've found a way to take care of my body when it comes to running injuries and it's really not that hard as long as you keep up with it. Basically, I use cold therapy products. Most people that try to recover from aches and pains of an active lifestyle were stuck with a frozen ice pack and having to sit still. It's so hard for me to sit still these days, as my to do list is ALWAYS huge. So instead, Arctic Ease created a reusable cooling wrap that gives you hours of relief without even being refrigerated. It combines the benefits of cold and compression therapy and it conforms to your body so it can stay in place without clips or tape.
It's such a simple thing. I just unroll my wrap, wrap it around whatever part of my body hurts, and I go about my day. It's biodegradable, eco-friendly, anti-microbial, and odor-free.
You can use Arctic Ease before, during, or after activity. It not only reduces swelling but it improves blood flow and reduces the pain associated with injuries. Plus, compression helps reduce swelling from Arthritis, muscle pains, strains, sprains, and repetitive motion injuries. And it comes in different fun colors. Oh, and it's a product that's made in the good ol' USA!
This was like a miracle product for me. Within 2 weeks of use, I no longer had any heel or ankle pain.
I can't believe how effective it was and how comfortable it feels when I wear it. I also have to say, this really gave me more free time because I didn't waste time having to be stationary and sit in a chair while I ice myself.
And one winner will get a wrap and tshirt from Arctic Ease!

Sometimes I get in a lull with running and I don't feel like keeping up with my fitness routine. But as long as I look stylish when I work out I feel way better about myself, my efforts, and I remember why I'm doing it.
One of the things I like to wear on a run that is functional and stylish is this Double Hydration Belt from Gone For A Run! They have so much useful running supplies and accessories. They even have a large selection of ways to decorate and display your medals, race bibs, and more!!!
The Double Hdration Belt by Run Technology is great for race day or just a daily run. The bottles are held within easy access and the neoprene holders fit securely on the belt. The holders won't bounce and they even have a slip lock feature so the bottles can't fall out. The bottles each hold 6 oz of water and are BPA Free.
It's so easy to take this on and off with a quick push of the buckle. And it also is so lightweight even with water in it. I can wear it on the front or the back depending on if I'm walking or running. This is definitely a must have especially when running on a hot day.
Now my shirt.... isn't it adorable? It's so comfortable and I love the fun and funky colors and lettering. It's the Never Gets Easier top from Uberfit which is a website that offers expression apparel.
Sometimes the best way to keep motivated is to keep reminding yourself of why you are getting in shape to begin with. I love how functional their apparel is! Everyone compliments my shirt when they see me running in it!
You can find Uberfit on Facebook here and on Instagram here.
PS - You can get 20% off your purchase at Uberfit with the code: AskAway
This adorable necklace is from Inspired Endurance! They have a whole bunch of running jewelry whether you want to get a customized one for a 5K, or even a full marathon! I love that you can add different charms to their necklaces. They also have rings and bracelets!!!
I love this necklace!!!! It's dainty and I actually wear it on my runs. The angel win mini charm is for protection and the Tourmaline Gemstone is so cute and really helps make my neckline pop!

Last month I ran my first 5K and I couldn't be more proud of myself, not only for how I performed, but how I prepared as well.
Here are 5 things I brought with me that really helped!
1. LA Fresh Female Hygiene Wipes
These are great for right after a run when you don't necessarily want to change clothes but you want to freshen up.
2. Chill Towel
My magical towel that makes me cooler instantly. This helps prevent any headaches I normally get when I run too hard and get too overheated!
3. LA Fresh Instant Body Soother
Sometimes my skin gets itchy from sweat and the 5k was no different thanks to the rain and sweat. This is perfect for a quick wipe down of my skin.
4. Shower Pill
The Shower Pill is an enormous wipe that helps you freshen up and is big enough to use on your whole body.
5. Go Sport ID Band
This is engraved with a motivating quote that I chose (What does not kill me makes me stronger) and on the back is my ICE (In Case of Emergency) which has my mom and dad's names and numbers. This is great for when you go on a run or hike by yourself but I always felt it would be important incase something were to happen during the face. I also changed out the band from my usual green to purple!
What do you bring along when you go to a race?

I have been running nearly everday for the past 3 months. At first it was stressful and I was always sore afterwards and exhausted, but after a few weeks I got the hang of what I was doing and how to help my body (and legs) recover afterwards so it wasn't such an ordeal everytime.
Here are my 3 necessities after a run.
1. Zim's Max-Freeze
Zim's Max-Freeze is my must-have product for running. It gives temporary relief to aching muscles and joins including back, shoulder, or neck pain. Sometimes I am so tense after a run or my ankles hurt so I just spray some on (It comes in roll-on and gel also) and let it get to work. It contains NO harmful ingredients like parabens, sulfates, or fragrances. It feels as if I'm icing my body down and it really does help! I can now go about my evening activities and daily duties without feeling wiped out.

2. Water
The second I'm done running, I begin hydrating my body again. The good thing about water is that it also helps fight that strong craving to scarf down food right after you work out.
3. The Stick
I tried a foam roller but it didn't help. Then I got The Stick. It feels so good and is sturdy yet still flexible. In a relaxed position, I roll it over my muscles on my neck, back, and legs. It is seriously AMAZING!!! You can buy it on Amazon here. There are 3 different sizes.
One lucky winner will get Zim's Max-Freeze for themselves!

| Me and my friend (James' sister) Vicki, one of the organizers. |
AHHHHHH! I did it I did it!! I ran my first 5K and I'm checking it off my 30 Before I'm 30 Bucket List! It was for the Central Pennsylvania Free to Breathe Lung Cancer Awareness Run/Walk in Harrisburg, PA on August 23, 2014.

Below is my time and ranking. I came in 52 overall, 7th in my age group, and 11th in my gender!!
![]() |
| OMG |
I am so stoked and proud of myself. A year ago, I never thought I would ever ever ever run a 5K. It was super nerve-racking. The night before I was so wound up and excited that I could barely sleep! The morning of, my alarm didn't go off so I woke up an hour later than I wanted to but it kin of helped kickstart me.
It was a rainy day and I was worried that would affect me or even make me slip going over the bridge which was part of our route.
| At the starting line! |
I had my playlist all ready to go so once I hit play there was only a few seconds before we all took off. Initially I freaked myself out because I was running towards the front which I guess I didn't think I would be doing that. For the first 15-20 seconds I remember my gut feeling as if it was twisted and shaking inside of me. I kept thinking "Am I going too fast?" or "Am I on the right side of the path?" "Can I do this?" I finally just told myself to shutup and just run and go with my feelings.
I had to take a few second walk breaks to catch my breathe but it wasn't as bad as I thought.
This was what I initially planned to wear, but then I switched into my Bella Capris!
Oh and I packed my inhaler, an ice pack for my achilles tendon, and a brace which I had to put on afterwards!
My leggings were the Bella Ladies Capri Fit Legging from ApparelnBags.com which I had got free from the company for a review! They were so comfortable and breathable so it really helped me run to my best ability!

Fall is here and it's important to keep up with your running routine so here are some tips to help you.

1. Use Lights
Since it's going to get darker a bit sooner each day, it's important to make sure you can still see in front of you and that you can still be seen by other people and cars while you run. I highly recommend Knucklelights that you can wear right on your knuckles.
With the click of a button you can turn them on or off. They are easy to hold and it makes it so much easier to see the road in front of you and avoid tripping or stumbling or sticks and other debris in the road.
Now that I have Knucklelights, I feel better about my evening runs and I won't leave home without them. They aren't bulky at all in fact they are very lightweight!
2. Mind Your Midsection

2. Mind Your Midsection
Since I'm not really in a bikini anymore to swim, I still like to track the progress of my tummy and I do that with the Ozeri Body Tape Measure and Body Fat Test Caliper Combo Pack. The tape measure is perfect for waist, thigh, arm, and more and the Body Fat Test Caliper is perfect for tracking weight management progress and my muscle grows!
The Body Tape has an awesome push-button lock and retraction and the Caliper is so easy to use! It even has a body fat chart for men and women to help you understand your specific body fat levels.
3. Pay Attention
There are going to be more kids playing outside right after school so make sure you are always aware of your surroundings. This means look out for balls, scooters, bikes, college students in cars, and school buses. Don't ever cross the street or pass a parked car without making sure you have some space and there aren't any vehicles coming.
4. Stay Hydrated
Just because you won't be sweating as much since the summer heat is slowly disappearing, doesn't mean you should cut back on your water intake. Keep drinking water before and after your workouts.
5. Get the proper attire
Fall isn't just about a new wardrobe for work, it's about keeping your workout apparel updated for the new weather patterns as well. Many runners like to wear capris around this time of year rather than shorts, just because it gets cooler in the evenings.

In order to keep running on a regular basis, you have to make sure you enjoy your running outfits or else you'll just feel "blah." So I decided to dedicate today's outfit of the day post to what I wear when I go on a run.
In order to keep running on a regular basis, you have to make sure you enjoy your running outfits or else you'll just feel "blah." So I decided to dedicate today's outfit of the day post to what I wear when I go on a run.
Let's start from the bottom up! It's important to run in comfort so I make sure that I wear compression socks.
These neon yellow and pink swirl from Pro Compression are not only stylish but they really help improve blood flow so it makes my legs less tired and they recover more quickly. Marathon compression socks actually support muscles and tendons to help reduce swelling, soreness, and inflammation. I love that these never got slippery even hours after my run. They didn't make me sweat, in fact they wicked away the moisture and they are so lightweight they didn't affect how my sneakers fit!
Speaking of sneakers....I got these gems from Reebok. They are the Women's Pheehan Running Shoe. Honestly, these were as light as air and I didn't even have to worry about breaking them in. They actually helped cut down on my running time and after 3 miles, they didn't squeeze my fit at all!
I really love the style and colors too. For the price ($60) they are very much worth it! I also found the low cut design to be very comfortable.
The other cool thing about the compression socks is that you can sign up for a Sock of the Month club at the bottom of the Pro Compression Home Page and you'll get great deals and new product announcements in your email!
It's just a simple short sleeve shirt and each one of these shirts gives 8 meals to a family in need in the Greater Boston area!! How cool is that!!! I love the stylish V-neck and the fitted look. This shirt does a great job of wicking away sweat and it even has a reflective logo for added visibility. Although I normally run in tank tops, this shirt was just the same!
So What I Wore:
Marathon Socks - Pro Compression; Shirt - Janji; Pants - MPG; Women's Pheehan Running Shoes - Reebok. And guess what! Not only do I have a coupon code for you to get your own Pro Compression gear AND a coupon code for Janji but I also have a giveaway.
For Janji you can get 20% off using code ASKAWAY.
You can use code BLG14 here to get 40% off Marathon Socks & Sleeves and get FREE shipping (US ONLY).
And for the giveaway..one winner will get a pair of compression socks!!
