How to become debt free

Yes, that's right.... I did it!!!! If you've been following my debt snowball posts over the years you'll remember that I was chipping away at my credit card debt HARDCORE! It has finally paid off.

In September 2012, I had $20k in credit card debt. In October 2014 I had it down to $10,169 and as of April 17th, 2015 I am 100000% DEBT FREE!!!

It is an amazing feeling.   But I wanted to answer the question everyone has been asking (besides how I got into debt, which I explained here)... how did I do it?  I've written before about how to pay off your debt but here is how I did it.

Also - all of the links in this post go back to articles I wrote about my journey and some advice on the whole process.

I am so excited!!

Last month I paid $1,228 towards my debt!! I'm down to about $2,100 now!!!  I am seriously so ecstatic.   It feels like it's taking forever. It's RIGHT THERE!!!

All the extra income I make from blogging goes directly towards my debt!

The snowball method has really worked wonders too!

My Debt Snowball Progress (October)

Tuesday, November 4, 2014

So far I have 2 cards down and now one to go.

It's getting harder and harder to keep on myself about what to do with all my snowball money, but I force myself to keep paying down my debt.  Sure, it's tempting to want to go on a shopping spree, but I know I'll regret it in the long run.  So in October I threw $770 at my debt and I now have  $9,498.89 to go. I WILL do this!!!!!

My Debt Snowball Progress (September)

Tuesday, October 7, 2014

So far I have 2 cards down and now one to go.

In September, I used all the extra blog income I could come up with to throw $714 at my debt of $15,000.  That brings me down to $10,176.  The next couple of months are going to be hardcore with paying this down!!      I am GAZELLE INTENSE!!

I've been holding back from spending any money that I don't have to. I opt for cheap or free entertainment and I make sure I sell things on ebay that I don't need!

My Debt Snowball Progrss (February)

Tuesday, March 11, 2014

Since I achieved my goal of paying my Target Visa card off last month, this month I threw a huge chunk of change towards my Capital One card!

$632 to be exact.
It was pretty much all the extra income I made from surveys and my blog and I am going to use the snowball method from this budget post to pay it off within the next two months.
I can't wait!

My Debt Snowball Progress (January)

Tuesday, February 4, 2014

So my goal was to have my Target Visa card paid off by January 1, 2014.  And I did that last month. But this month I ended up throwing $575 at my next one... Capital One.   It was all blogging money I had saved up.

It's super easy especially because I use the snowball method I mentioned in my budget post.

My goal is to pay this off by June and I totally know I can do it.

My Debt Snowball Progress (December) and A CARD PAYOFF!!!

Tuesday, January 7, 2014

So my goal was to have my Target Visa card paid off by January 1, 2014. In order to do that, I would have to be paying AT LEAST $367 a month on that card using the debt snowball method I mentioned in my budget post. Well, it suddenly occurred to me, why not try to exceed that amount every month?! So I did!

And guess what, I JUST PAID IT ALL OFF!!! My final payment was almost $800!

I basically just added up all my Christmas money, blog income, and some ebay money and I did it!!!!

HOORAY!!! My next goal is to have my Capital One card paid off by June 2014 and guess what I KNOW I can do it!
