The ideal home maintenance checklist can be a tricky thing to put together. There are so many different things that need to be done every week, month, and year. The last thing you want is for your home to fall into disrepair. Especially if you've spent so much making it a special place. That's why it pays off to know what needs doing and then make sure it happens! Here is a guide to the ideal home maintenance schedule.
Start Outside
Driveway And Garage

Your driveway and garage are the first things people see when they come to your home. If you want to make a good impression, these areas must look neat at all times! Once every month or so, sweep out any dirt or debris from both of them. Then once per season (fall/winter for most climates), give the driveway and garage a good sealant coating. This will help protect the surface from any moisture, so your driveway won't crack or rot! It also prevents dirt from getting stuck in cracks and crevices throughout the year! Since your garage door is often used, you need to ensure that any identified problems are sorted out immediately. Your Lawn And Garden

Everybody likes to have a nice lawn around their home, even if you're not one for gardening. But the key to keeping it nice is making sure you mow and edge regularly! Grass gets unruly fast, so if you want your lawn looking great for that upcoming barbecue or party, then get out and do some yard work at least once per week. It's also essential to keep up with weeding between mowing, so your garden doesn't take over the whole yard! Another important aspect of garden and lawn maintenance is ensuring that you regularly water your garden to keep it looking fresh and vibrant.

Make sure you change out all exterior lights at least once per year. This means changing light bulbs and checking for any burned-out fixtures. Doing this ensures that you have sufficient light when arriving home at night. It also makes it easy for visitors to find your home. Additionally, make sure to test all the electric plugs outside your house and inspect them for frayed cables.
Roof & Gutters

One of the most critical parts of home maintenance is making sure your roof and gutters are in good shape. For wooden floors, make sure to use a good quality wood cleaner and wax product. This will keep your floor in top shape while also making it easier to sweep! For tile or laminate floors, you'll need to get into the habit of mopping at least once per week. The same goes for carpets. But if there are stains on the carpet that won't come out, a good quality carpet cleaner will help.
Indoor Walls And Paint

Check your indoor walls and paint! Ensure no moisture or mold has accumulated in any dark recesses. This means damp patches on the wall. This can lead to some severe health problems for younger people and the elderly. So make sure to check your walls at least twice per year for any signs of moisture damage!

When your plumbing starts to fail, then that means some significant problems with mold or rot! Make sure you check all pipes for leaks at least once per month and get them fixed as soon as possible. If water is leaking out into your yard, then that means you have a severe problem! Reach out to a local plumber as soon as possible if this is the case. Make sure to check all fixtures, including faucets and toilets. And if any need replacing, make sure to get them replaced right away, so there are no problems later on down the line.

Lights And Plugs

Finally, there is the Lights and Plugs section of home maintenance. Make sure to check your indoor lights at least once per week for any signs of damage or bulb-outs. This means checking light switches and replacing them if needed. And make sure all electronic plugs are in good working order with no frayed wires that could cause a fire!

That may seem like a lot of work, but the key is making it part of your routine! If you can carve out one Saturday morning each month for home maintenance, then over time, everything will get done without much effort on your part. The last thing you want is for your home to start falling apart around you, so stay on top of things and see what needs fixing!
