How to Start Spring Cleaning (Yes, NOW!)

Spring's fast approaching which means now is a great time to get a head start on Spring cleaning! Doing a big thorough cleaning of your home certain times of the year is a great idea because if you don't do it now, when will you? So here's how you can start Spring cleaning now!

Decide How to Approach
Some people like to split up their tasks by room while others like to do it by task.  However you do it, is completely up to you.  Maybe you want to clean all the windows in every part of your home at the same time, or maybe you want to just clean everything in one room at a time.  Either way, do what works best for you.  I usually just go room to room but with certain things (vacuuming or windows) I may just do the entire house.

Remove Everything
You can't thoroughly clean if there's stuff in your way, so whatever you're working on, empty it out first.  This means remove all books from their shelves, remove everything from a drawer or cupboard, and take everything out of a closet you're working on. This allows you to clean a blank slate and to be mindful of how you put things back.

Work from Top to Bottom
You always want to work from top to bottom because when you clean at the top, dirt falls to the bottom.  Start dusting before you vacuum the floor.  Spray mirrors first, then work on the bathroom counter.  This even applies to a closet.  Work on the top shelves before you work on the bottom.

Scrub Scrub Scrub
This isn't just a wipe down, it's a scrub down.  If there are tough stains or sticky spots on something, work at them to get them completely clean.  Break out all the tools. I have scrub brushes of all sizes, microfiber rags, and different cleaning sprays that I use in all my areas.

Before Putting Away, Evaluate
Do you need everything you have? Do you have broken items or duplicate items you can donate, sell, or throw out? Take care of those before you put everything away again.

Organize Only After Cleaning
No sense in organizing a drawer if it's not clean, right? Before you decide how you'll arrange things in a drawer or what containers you'll use, make sure you're done cleaning.

Now that you have some great tips, get started! Make a list and work your way through it!
