It's no shock these days that prices are rising especially with grocery costs. There isn't a whole lot we can do about that unfortunately but there are a few practical tips that can help cut back on those costs. 1. Meal Plan
Plan your meals and make your grocery list based on only what you need for those meals. Look in your cabinets and fridge/freezer before meal planning to see if you already have things you can incorporate into upcoming meals. I even have a guide on meal planning here.
2. Buy Generic Brands
Before going for name brands, consider choosing the generic brands as they generally are cheaper and are basically the same things with the same ingredients.
3. Grow Food
If you have the space in your yard, consider planting a garden or just planting some of the items (herbs, veggies, etc.) that you eat regularly. You can also harvest and freeze your food to use in the future which saves money and prevents waste.
4. Buy Cheap
Some items can be purchased for cheap at dollar stores or even at little market stands and it may end up being more affordable. You may have to drive since it isn't at your usual grocery store however planning your errands carefully can help alleviate stress of running all over the place.
5. Eat Proper Portions and Embrace Leftovers
It can be tempting to eat everything you just cooked for a meal but saving some for later so you can eat them the next day for lunch or even for dinner.
6. Use Coupons and Read Weekly Ads
Sometimes coupons can end up costing you more when you have to buy the brand name when the generic would be cheaper but if you read weekly ads you can look for sales and price reductions that you can take advantage of (and sometimes even stack coupons on top of). Take one day a week to look at your local grocery store's flyer to see what's on sale and consider planning your meals around those items.
7. Eat Less Processed Foods
I know they say eating healthy can be expensive but oftentimes eating processed foods can cost more and they often aren't as healthy for you so be more mindful of the type of food you are putting in your body.
How are you saving money when it comes to groceries?
