How To Neutralize Odors In Your Home [ + a giveaway]

Friday, March 11, 2016

The Renuzit® brand provided me with samples of Renuzit® Sensitive Scents™ in exchange for a product review.  However, all the opinions expressed here are my own.

My home may look clean and beautiful in photos but I still have to take action on a regular basis to keep it that way.  I have 4 dogs which means there is plenty of fur flying around, dog toys on the ground, and pet odor in the air.  Especially because I have small dogs that use pee pads in the house, I need to make sure my home is always pleasant to my guests' noses.   So I now use a few secret weapons in my home from Renuzit Sensitive Scents.  They are the scented oil, adjustable scent cones, and deodorizing spray.

These products work to neutralize odors in my home and leave a pleasant and welcoming aroma behind.  So let's take a closer look at how each of these products can be used in different ways.

[Scent Cones]
I used my Pure Water Blossom & Cucumber scent cone in the dining room area where I nestle it between a houseplant and some decorative dinnerware.  It's great for small spaces and the cones last for up to 4 weeks.  They are also a biodegradable gel!  When guests come over we usually sit in the dining room and now I know that it'll have a pleasant smell.
[Trigger Spray]
I let me pets on my living room furniture with me so I know they can leave scents behind.  I use the Pure White Pear & Lavendar spray to neutralize the tough odors like musky fabrics.  It's super easy to spray as I see my guests pulling in so I don't have to worry about them sitting on a stink couch.

[Universal Scented Oils]
The office is where I do a lot of my work but it's also where I keep the dog's pee pads and supplies.  This means that sometimes there can be an unpleasant odor in that room and you can detect it just by walking past it as you make your way down the hall to the restroom.  I just love how the Pure Ocean  Breeze makes the entire office and hall way smell.  It's so pleasant and now my guests don't even realize that I have pee pads in that room!

Now one of you will get to win a free product voucher for any one Renuzit Sensitive Scents product!

I Want All My Dogs to Have A #BrightMind

Thursday, March 10, 2016

This post is sponsored by Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND and the BlogPaws® Pet Influencer Network™. I am being compensated for helping enrich the lives of senior dogs, but we only share information we feel is relevant to our readers. Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND is not responsible for the content of this article.

You may remember me posting in December about how I transitioned Grace to a new food - Purina Pro Plan® BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+®>. Pro Plan is my go to choice for dry food for my chihuahuas. Since nutrition is important at any life stage and for any aging pet, I especially keep this in mind for Pixie and Rocky since they are 10 and 11 years old. In order to help promote alertness and mental sharpness in dogs 7 and older, Purina Pro Plan came up with their BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+ formulas which I am so glad I feed.

Purina Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+ formulas contain enhanced botanical oils that have been shown to promote alertness and mental sharpness in dogs seven and older with results visible in just 30 days! Owners who feed their senior dogs this food as a daily diet may notice difference in owner-dog interactions and increased interest in play. That's JUST what I noticed with my babies. I like to joke that they have selective hearing, especially Grace. Once I began to feed them Purina Pro Plan I noticed that Grace was more attentive to my commands. It's made play time much more enjoyable for both of us because I can practice some training commands while we play in the yard or take walks.

Grace is 8 now and according to experts at Purina Pro Plan, around age seven the glucose and metabolism in a dog's brain starts to change. This affects memory, learning, awareness, and decision making. Our walks are more enjoyable because Grace listens to my commands when I instruct her to ignore distractions, and to keep at my pace.

All of my dogs, especially Grace have a better energy to them as well. We all get to enjoy the warmer spring weather instead of just feeling lazy and lounging around inside all day. I don't hear any popping and cracking when they play in the yard which may very well be due to the Glucosamine in their food that benefits their joints.

Meal time is so enjoyable for my dogs. I notice they eat without hesitation and they are excited when the time rolls around that I start to pour food into their bowls. The Chicken & Rice Formula has been a big hit! I love the shine in their coats, the bright sparkle in their eyes, and the fact that I no longer have itchy scratchy chihuahuas running around all day.

You can follow along and get more information on the BRIGHT MIND website, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram! Make sure you purchase Purina Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND today from Petsmart!

Rocky's Great News!

Wednesday, March 9, 2016

You may remember a post I did last year about Rocky being diagnosed with Mitral Valve Disease. Well last week was his follow up appointment at the one year mark. He went in to have all the scans, x-rays etc for his heart. And we got great news!

I am super excited to report that Rocky's enlarged heart, while still bigger than normal, has greatly reduced in size as well as the one chamber of heart. The before and after picture shows (at the top) how big his heart was and how it pressed on his windpipe, causing him to cough anytime he was active. He is doing great on heart medicine, I can't hear a murmur, and he is so active and enjoys running around like the crazy man that he is! I could not have asked for better news!! Of course his condition can change at any time, as with anything in a person or pet but early detection has always been key, so that's why I will continue to take him to his yearly heart scans and his quarterly blood pressure/ bloodwork check ups!

Thanks for all your positive thoughts last year and throughout the year!

YAY ROCKY!!!

5 Ways You're Abusing Your Hair

Tuesday, March 8, 2016

Taking care of your hair is one of the most important things you can ever do for your beauty routine.  Hair is such a big deal.  People are either talking about how they want to change it, grow it out, or learn to style it.   But most people don't realize that they can be really abusing their hair and neglecting it and it all starts with YOU.   The way you care for your hair determines how it will look and feel in the long run.

So here are 5 common ways you may be abusing your hair!

Mistake 1: Not Protecting it from the Elements
When you are out in the sun you remember to protect your skin, right? But what about your hair? That's right - sun can damage your hair too and it can also make your color fade, hence why people can get natural highlights by laying out in the sun too often.  Make sure you cover up and in the summer months you can even use a UV spray on your strands.

Mistake 2: Too Much Heat
If you blow dry AND curl or flat iron your hair every single day then you are really beating up your strands.  Heat is very hard on each individual strand of hair which is why I recommend only using heat when you have to.   Try to go a few days without washing your hair so you don't need to dry it.

Mistake 3: Overwashing
Sometimes when your hair seems greasy it's actually because it's producing more oil to make up for how dry your scalp really is.  If you wash your hair everyday, it may actually be drying it out.  In order to break the cycle you have to go an extra day or two each week without washing it.  Eventually, your hair will get used to the new routine and oil production will be reduced.  You can use dry shampoo on the in-between days.

 Mistake 4: Coloring Too Much
I always cringe when I see people changing their hair color every week.  Honestly, hair color can be really hard on your strands so try to stick with one color and stay there for a few years.  Also, it's better to make your hair darker than lighter.

Mistake 5: Not Using a Mask
If you aren't using a hair mask once a week let me fill you in on why you need to start! Shielo has an amazing Intensive Hair Mask that I use on a regular basis.  It's safe for color-treated hair and contains certified organic extracts.  This hair mask repairs your locks to leave your hair looking fresh, moisturized, and free flowing.  Results can be expected after only one use of it!

What are you doing to your hair that you need to change?

I Put Beer in My Hair...+ It's Great

Friday, March 4, 2016

Yes, you read that right.   I put beer in my hair.   But let me back up....
Beer is yummy.  Beer is fun to use in recipes.  Most of all, beer can be good for your hair. That's right. Beer can not only strengthen your hair but it can add some shine to it.  A lot of the shampoos and conditioners most people use actually don't have the best ingredients in them and they weigh down your locks or even dry out your scalp.

The malt and hops found in beer contain proteins that nourish hair and the nutrients inside beer can help repair it.

That's where Duffy's Brew comes in.  Duffy's Brew started when they wanted to share the magic of beer, shampoo, and botanical extracts with the rest of the world.  Duffy's Brew products are 100% Vegan and they are also free of parabens, sulfates, and phthalates.  And one of my favorite selling points is the fact that this brand NEVER tests their products on animals!!

Duffy's Beer Shampoo is made from real beer.  It's rich in amino acids and contains hops, roasted barley, and malt to give your hair a nice shine.  The Vitamin B, proteins, and minerals help protect your hair while giving you volume.  The hops and yeast in this shampoo contain anti-septic properties that help treat dandruff and scalp irritation.   Your hair cuticles will tighten and shine more thanks to the maltose and sucrose in the shampoo.

There are plenty of botanical extracts inside like fennel seed to seal and protect color, aloe leaf to moisturize and protect, acai berry to energize and stimulate hair growth,  gogi berry to repair and restore overprocessed hair, and sunflower seed to give your hair a silky smooth finish.

I loooooove the smell of this shampoo.   It's very pleasant and the beer scent is definitely not overwhelming.  It lathered really well with just a little bit and when I rinsed my hair I didn't feel like I still had shampoo stuck in it.

Duffy's Beer Conditioner is just as beneficial as the shampoo but I especially love how silky and tangle-free it left my hair.  My hair looked so much shinier and healthier after I started using Duffy's Brew products.   I can't believe how amazing they are and I really love the results.

A little goes a long way with both products which I really appreciate.   I can't recommend Duffy's Brew enough, whether you drink beer or not - you can ALWAYS wash your hair with it!

Chewy 30 Day Challenge [First Thoughts]

Wednesday, March 2, 2016

This site has affiliate links and sponsored content. Read my Disclosure Policy.

My dogs mean everything to me, as if I don't make that obvious enough these days.  Their food is something that I take very seriously and I only feed them foods with ingredients that will benefit them nutritionally.  So I'm starting a 30 Day Challenge with Chewy on the Holistic Blend Dog Food.  This post will be about my first thoughts on the food my pups will be eating - Chicken, Rice, & Vegetable All Life Stages Dry Dog Food.

The first thing I noticed right off the bat was the smell of the food.  Some dog foods can be really unpleasant and it makes me wonder why I'm even feeding it to my pets.  This bag of Holistic Blend Dog Food had a pleasant food odor, as if it was something I could eat.   I also loved the size and shape of the kibble.  I know it will be easy for my dogs to chew and swallow.

The Holistic Blend Food is hypo-allergenic and promotes healthy skin and coats.  It's also naturally preserved with Rosemary rather than artificial preservatives.  The meat proteins are free range which is a very big deal to me.

This food is also suitable for pets with sensitive stomachs.  There is no by-product ingredient and because of the ingredients it allows for smaller feeding portions which means your bag can last longer.
The first few feedings have been great. My dogs have devoured their breakfasts and dinners which makes me very happy. Rocky is normally a picky eater and even he scarfed his down! Stay tuned for an update in about 2 weeks where I note any changes I've seen with my babies!
