Some people vary their daily routines and schedules based on what’s going on that day but for me, I have always been a strict creature of habit and routine. It gets too chaotic for me to switch back and forth. If I sleep in on a weekend I wake up in a panic because I feel like I’ve lost some time and I have to catch up on my to do list.
So my solution is that no matter what, I wake up at 4:40 everyday. If I don’t have to work or do certain things, I may just have more free time that morning to simply exist. Sometimes I may get motivated and do a couple chores I save for other days, that way I have more “time to exist” on another morning.
But one thing is for sure, I always wake up at the same time, eat breakfast, and feed and care for the dogs. Once that’s done I feel better because those are my most important tasks. Some days I have to go on a run after that and then wash my hair afterwards. Some days I have to go into the office and others I work from home. The great thing about my commitment to my morning routine is that I am never rushed and I never feel stressed out when I have some random unusual thing pop up. If a dog gets sick, I don’t feel panicked that I am losing time cleaning that should be for something else.
Because I make sure my morning routine on ANY day starts at the same time, I have ensured I always have free time in the mornings and if chaos ensues, it can cut into that free time but it doesn’t throw everything off for the rest of the day.
I have never been late for work, I have never missed an appointment, and I have never had a morning meltdown aside from… well..the usual mini crash out on an emotional day if you catch my drift.
When we read about the importance of morning routines, this is what they mean, or at least that’s how I’ve always interpreted it.
What’s your morning routine like?
