It’s not hard to fall into a rut during the work week, and along with that can come a negative outlook on life and a crappy attitude. So here are 5 tips to a better work day!

1. Laugh
Whether it’s a silly text from a friend, or a sarcastic one liner that you share with your best “coworker-friend”, sarcasm and laughter is great and can get you through the day!! It actually releases a happy chemical in your brain so you physically will have some mental attitude improvement!

2. Take a break
Get up and go outside for 5 minutes, take a walk around your building or up and down the stairwell. Check your email from your phone or your Facebook feed. Or take 5 minutes to read a book you have.

3. Be grateful
Next time you start to complain that you have to be at work or that you don’t like your job…think of this… It COULD be worse..you could be jobless and not have a way to put food on the table at home. Be grateful and thankful. Plain and simple!

4. Plan your evening

Making a list of things you want to do tonight, whether they are fun or just regular to do tasks, can give you something to look forward to and focus on besides how much you don’t want to be at work currently. Sometimes it can even make you say “Eh, I’d rather be at work”.

5. Surround yourself and your desk with pictures of things that make you happy.

Whether it’s your significant other, or your children and pets, when you glance at them, you will smile and feel better instantly. Plus it reminds you what you are working to take care of. I have photos of my family and my dogs all over my cubicle at work! It definitely works!!

My Getaway at Bear Creek Mountain Resort

Friday, August 9, 2013

This past weekend I got the chance to get away for a night with my boyfriend and head about an hour and a half from Harrisburg, to check out Bear Creek Mountain Resort.  This resort is located in Berks County, Pennsylvania and offers skiing, snowboarding, and snowtubing in the winter.  In the summer, spring, and fall bear Creek Mountain Resort offers hiking, biking, boating, disc golf, tennis, and a nearby golf course.   They also offer a ballroom facility for weddings and other celebrations.

The drive was very quick and the directions from their website were extremely easy to follow.  I really enjoyed the scenic backroads as we got closer to the entrance.

THE HOTEL

When we arrived and checked in at the hotel, we headed straight for our room and were so pleased to see the beautiful modern look mixed with a touch of wilderness as soon as you look out the window!

Our deluxe queen suite had a living area with a TV, coffee table, and plenty of seating.   It was nice and spacious to relax in and watch some Shark Week!

There was also a dining area and a kitchen which had a mini fridge, a microwave, a coffee maker, a sink, and some storage space.
The bedroom had 2 queen beds and another TV.
There was a very nice bathroom with a vanity room next to it.  This is the vanity area, and I spared you the toilet pictures of the actual bathROOM. There was also a hair dryer as well as an in room safe.
 And THIS was our view!
The garden areas were so pretty and relaxing and the little path was a nice way to walk around to get to different areas of the resort.

Our room was on the slope side so if you look up in the above photo, you can see the ski left and the bottom part of the slope that everyone uses in the winter!

THE LAKE
Bear Creek Mountain Resort offers some beautiful scenery as well as some outdoor activities for the whole family.   They had some paddle boats and kayaks available to take out.  We had dinner reservations at 5:15 PM (Wait till I get to THAT part!) so we had some spare time to leisurely stroll around the Resort outside so I could get some photos.

Outfit of the Day: Royal Purple and Floral

Wednesday, August 7, 2013

I love the floral trend going on with skinny jeans lately and I was trying to find some new tops to wear with my floral bottoms.   I really liked this look, using a darker, royal purple top with lighter floral bottoms.

There's a light purple color on my pants so it helped accent the royal purple top.

And the look was easily finished off with nude heels...these are actually the Amy shoe in taupe from Just Fab!

So what I wore was Floral skinnies from Romwe; Purple top from Body Central; Sheer white top from TJ Maxx; heels from Just Fab!

5 Reasons You Don't (DO) Need a Budget

Tuesday, August 6, 2013

I've written about how I stay on a budget and it's important to know that a budget doesn't mean that you can't manage money or won't be allowed to spend it.  A budget is simply controlling and tracking where your money goes so you efficiently and effictively spend or save each dollar.

Below are 5 major reasons that some of my Facebook friends gave me for why they don't need a budget. And below each reason is why they still may need one.

1. I have a lot of money and I don't need one.
Well, just because someone's on a budget doesn't mean they do or don't have money. Wealth is a state of mind.   Wealthy people still track their money.  In fact, wealthy people don't have less stress when they have more money, but they have less stress because they know where all their money goes. REMEMBER: Budget does not mean LIMIT SPENDING... it means TRACKING SPENDING!!!

2. I'm too lazy.
The more you put this off and procrastinate, the worse it'll be if a crisis ever happens, and by crisis I mean life.  We all have had those moments where life is derailed for a bit and we lose track of our daily and weekly schedule and routine, even with money!

3. I don't have the time to budget.
You don't have the time NOT to budget!  It literally will take a few hours or  a couple days to just do the work.  And once you do it, it's done and the only thing you'll ever have to do is maintenance and updates here and there!

4. I'm scared to see what my situation really is.

Okay...and once you see, you can make the adjustments then and there on paper or on your database, and see how your situation ISN'T so bad.  It's never as bad as you imagine if you aren't already tracking it.  Just trust me on this one!

5. My current "Method" works fine.

That's fine if it does, but then you should never ever have a situation come up where you don't have any money to put towards an emergency that arises.   That's why I also say that by budgeting for unexpected expenses you will always have money put aside in an emergency fund, a mini savings fun for your car, your home, and whatever else you need to save for.  A healthy budget always allows room for some emergencies.   Besides... your current "method" can already be your budget, you just call it something besides the B word!
