Pixie and Her Bright Mind

Everyone knows that I have 4 chihuahuas and I'm the Crazy Chihuahua Lady, but do you know what started it all?   Pixie.   That's right - one little 6 pound dog started my life changing devotion to my wolfpack.  10 years ago I got my precious little Pixie. I chose her from a photo the breeder sent me and I loved her because of her little fat body and the white diamond on her forehead.

By the time I brought her home she had won me, my family, and all my friends over.  I could never ask for a better first dog than Pixie. She is smart, curious, loves to interact, and a very pleasant dog to be around.  Of course Pixie is 10 so I am being very careful of what I put into her when it comes to her dog food.  So recently I decided to switch to Purina ProPlan Bright Mind, a specially formulated food to increase cognitive awareness in adult dogs (age 7 and older.)

According to the experts at Purina Pro Plan, the glucose metabolism in a dog's brain starts to change and can effect the memory, learning, awareness, or decision making.  So in order to promote alertness and mental sharpness in dogs that are 7 or older Purina Pro Plan created a formula and introduced BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+.  It contains enhanced botanical oils that have been known to promote alertness and mental sharpness in dogs 7 and older and results have been visible within 30 days!  It's possible to notice differences in owner-dog interaction after feeding a senior dog Purina Pro Plan Bright Mind as a daily diet and there may even be more of an interest in play and the ability to better adapt and cope with change.  Even though Chihuahuas can live a long time, dogs are still considered senior by the time they reach age 7, and an estimated 44% of the approximate 87 million dog population in the U.S. is 7 years of age.

In order to make this transition a successful one I had to observe Pixie before starting the new food.  I wrote down some changes I've seen in her and she has gotten older.  She sometimes tunes me out (selective hearing maybe, lol) and doesn't always do what I tell her to on command anymore. She basically enjoys being stubborn.  She even wags her tail at me when she can tell I'm frustrated! Silly Pixie.  She also sleeps a lot more.  Once we went to Petsmart and chose her new food, we began to transition Pixie over the course of 7-10 days using the instructions on the back panel of the package.  During the transition I noted many observations and changes in behavior or activity.

Once Pixie was completely transitioned, I wrote down everything I noticed over the next 30 days, like her randomly napping less and I watched her running around playing in the evenings instead.  She also would sit on command for a treat instead of just keep staring at the treat like she used to do and being stubborn.   I'm very happy to see such positive changes in Pixie!

Again, you can find Purina ProPlan Bright Mind in Petsmart.

And... if you spend $10 on Purina Pro Plan Dry Dog or Car Food between 8/31 and 10/4 you can save $10 on your next purchase of 14 lbs or more, on or before 11/1.

  1. Pixie and I would most definitely be friends! She reminds me of a blond version of my little Ethel Mae! Ethel is getting older, too, so I'll have to check out this food for her...thanks! #client
