So I read this very interesting article about the world’s scariest bugs. It was about some of the creepiest and most feared insects and spiders out there like the Black Widow, the Goliath Bird-eating Spider, and the Human Botfly. It explained what exactly each one preys on and it ended up teaching me that those insects really aren't a threat to humans and actually prey on other specific creatures. What I found most interesting was that the names and the looks of these creepy crawlies is really what makes me shiver the most. Once I learned that they aren't a threat to me, it kind of made me feel a bit more at ease, in case I ever do encounter one.
The bug I'm most afraid of is definitely the Helgramite. It's so icky and it seriously makes me squeal. I had a major #BugOut moment a few years back when one was crawling across my balcony after a rain storm. I seriously didn't know which way to run and I was so afraid it was going to come scurrying after me if I tried to go inside. I ended up jumping over it and locking my door for the entire weekend and I never saw it again but I still get goosebumps when I remember how big it was and how it's little pinsers moved. Ahhh!!
Anyways, while I don't think I'll ever be too fond of any insect, I have to say the Orkin Ecologist site is a great educational resource for anyone, whether you're a bug expert, or you're just starting to learn. There's so much useful information that helps you easily identify bugs you may see as well as identifying which ones are harmful to humans and which ones pose no threat!
And if you like The Orkin Ecologist on Facebook you can keep up to date with their feed. Plus, add them on Pinterest and see all the insects they post on their boards!
So do you have a #BugOut moment creepier than mine? I'd LOVE to hear it! Leave it in a comment below or post it on social media with the hashtag #BugOUt
