Our Front + Side Yard Makeover

Friday, April 8, 2016

I spent this past weekend making a few trips to Home Depot to stock up on small round Arbovitae for the front of our home.   When we moved in the house looked like this...

Don't get me wrong, it's always been a beautiful house, it's just that it was very overgrown, and very green.   Look at how large and close that bush is to the front door!

So we ripped everything out...

And added stones as mulch...

But it still looked bare to me so ever since last Fall I've been planning, researching, and dying to add some more landscaping touches.

So this weekend I planted arbovitae along the front.  Doesn't it add so much dimension along the front? It was just too flat before.

And at the corner of the house I added a Dwarf Alberta Spruce. It's small now but it'll be a nice corner accent piece to add some height when it grows more.  I know there's a lot of dirt there but we are having more stones delivered and everything will match.

Then we have the area along the side of the garage.

Pretty green and overgrown with some bulbs that really don't bloom into anything pretty.   They also seem very very old.

So I ripped everything out, laid down mulch, and will add some more flowers and possibly decorative lettuce in a month or so.  Right now the only flowers there are the mums I planted last Fall.

We also put in some more solar lighting.
And I have been lusting over Sky Pencils aka Japanese Holly for months now so I got one to put in towards the backyard. Eventually we will have a patio back there and there will be a privacy fence behind the Sky Pencil.

I'm so friggin domestic now. What's wrong with me? Ha!

Stay tuned for some more updates!
